What class do you think is the best and why? By best I mean most powerful and in most need of a nerf, not your personal favorite.

The scout is the strongest class because of everything it can do lumped together. Scatter gun alone is a beast, more than enough reserved ammo, large clip size, fast firing rate, fast reload, very high damage (105 damage, only outdone by sniper rifle and rockets), deadly at medium/close range(60-105 damage) and a hitscan. One of, if not the best primary in the game.

Pistol fires 6 shots a second, that's 126 damage a second at close range and down to what i believe is roughly 75ish damage a longer ranges. Three clips is plenty enough reserved with fairly quick reload.

Bat falls short of scatter, its useless.

As for the class itself, speed is everything, especially in this slow game. Domination of health and ammo packs lets him hit and run endlessly, double jump lets him dance around multiple opponents. He can cap quicker and flank better than anyone in the game. He picks what range to fight at, by far the best ability in the game. You'll always win when you pick the fight to your advantage.

Leagues and matches are won by scouts, they can be the most consistent and have the ability to medic dive because of their speed, and then get to battle fast after respawn. They are made to ambush, flank and dive, but in skilled hands they will dominate direct combat. They are the strongest not because of points, or captures or K/D ratio, its because of their effectiveness to win the game, and to do it often.

I'd say demo is the most powerful, but scout is the most abnormally powerful. That is, demo is the top, but he should be near the top, whereas the scout shouldn't be anywhere near such a level and thus I feel is in need of a nerf to a greater extent.

Demoman. By a pretty large margin I would imagine.

Sure, a Scout may be fast, but explosions have that blast radius thing and a nade-exploding-on-contact does enough damage to 1 hit anything slightly wounded.

Stickies are also very hard to counter in the hands of a good demoman and can easily take out an unsuspecting opponent in two well placed shots. They can easily provide area denial, and a crit is almost a guaranteed kill.

That said, I don't think it needs a nerf. I believe the balance is close enough in TF2 that things work out ok in the end. Most nerfs that matter have already been completed here and there (e.g. sticky bomb destruction/crit reduction).

And yeah, though Scouts feature heavily in leagues in the hands of the general public they are all over the place. Leagues also don't feature Engineers, Spies or Pyros, but this doesn't make them any less useful, they just aren't classes that have longevity.

Leagues also use skill, and a high skill ceiling in classes shouldn't be discouraged and thus nerfed. I've seen some devastating use of a sniper rifle, but 90% of players are unable to do this, and thus nerfing is not a good idea.

Hrmph. In your personal metagame scouts are OP, but in vanilla play they are not.

1. Anything and everything that applies to comp play applies to pub play
2. You don't see OP scouts on your pub becuase you don't play against great scouts that can actually aim and use the class to their full ability.

2 -> You watch him play?

I agree with him for vanilla play for the simple reason that there is a MAJOR difference between comp and pub play: Teamwork.

Without teamwork Engineers suddenly become a big obstacle, Scouts struggle getting behind since they can be singled out and destroyed at range. On the other hand, with Teamwork the opposing team classes the Scout as a lower threat than something attached to a medic, and thus a Scout can flank easily.

I feel obliged to say lots of things here. But I'm not going to accidentally start a flame war.

On Topic: No class is truly overpowered. I absolutely hate Pyros when I'm playing Spy; the rule is generally that if I see one at very close range, I will get lit on fire and likely die. However, they're meant to be a Spy's counter. Let them be.

I do not see how Demomen are overpowered. Not at all. Is it just cool to hate this class or something?

Sniper is overpowered because he can kill efficiently and instantly at all ranges.
But it's okay because people aren't good enough to use his full potential (which would be an aimbot I guess :p).
