why do I start thinking that the nav mesh editing will be a pain in the ass?

Oh yeah, because I read the tutorials on valve's wiki. Couldn't they just made it simple? The whole bunch of console commands needed reminds me of MS DOS ages.

I'm guessing it won't be long before someone makes a vgui menu for it.

Console commands can be bound to keys. I do it all the time I have a local server up and I'm fooling around in the map.

Works just about as well as a gui? But I'm not sure, since I've never actually had to edit a node network before.

http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/SketchUp_Source_Tools

Makes it a lot easier to model for everyone without 3dsmax skills. But we will probably see a lot of crappy models.

Yeah pretty much. Considering that sketchup is a horrific 3d modeling program, and nowhere close to being able to pump out models that are anywhere near the quality of those made in 3ds. However it does let a lot more people create necessary props for their levels, and it's better than nothing. Mind you I think a plugin for gmax would be a good addition to this.
