Hello.

I'm working on this map, and I need some flowing water in it.
I want the water to do these things:

-Look like it's moving.
-Able to swim in it.
-Push the player. (probably in a separate trigger)
-A Waterfall.

To explain the last one, I have a vertical body of water that connects to a horizontal body of water. I need the side of the vertical water to flow down, and I need the top of the horizontal water to flow sideways.

Also, if you can recommend any textures that will look good for the flowing/waterfall, please say so.

Can anyone help me?

A word for the wise. Or is it "A word from the wise"?

Either way, avoid waterfalls.

A number of members have attempted to create waterfalls, in source, all of varying degrees of success (and taste). TF2 has it's own further stylistic issues. Most of such attempts fail, because of VALVe's negligance to support such a significant environmental feature.

I believe the easiest way to do this would be to create your own model. One that would probably be best seen at a distance, in a "prop scene" where players wont complicate matters by clipping into it etc. Short of that you're probably issuing the biggest challenge you probably could to yourself, short of coding your own dynamic water.

For shows sake.

^^

The best thing you could do for flowing water is find a scrolling version of a current water texture. There are several floating about, it shouldn't be hard to find. But it'll probably look horrible unless it moves very slowly; and in one direction.

If you really really really really really want a waterfall, your best bet is to create your own materials. If you're gonna do it, do it well and put the effert in, otherwise you'll not get the results you want and waste your time.

K, I'll probably do away with the waterfall and just try for a scrolling texture.
Thanks.

Thats what i did, I borrowed a texture from cs:s that was intended for a river and created multiple detail brushes and put them together, after that, I used white smoke at the top and bottom to give the illusion that water really is flowing.

These are what I have, the "flow" texture is from CS:S, flowdown is the same as "flow" but the scrolling is a bit faster, and the last one is just a random one that I haven't used before.

Just place these into your tf2 folder. The name of the textures are the same as their respective folders.
