Sooo, I've only mapped a little bit for Source, and I have very, very little experience with the trains...(If you want to know how little, check out zf_fortress, any version, especially the old ones, harhar).

Basically, I'm thinking of making a map which has 2 trains that run on oval-shaped tracks. The map is kind of centered around the trains, as they provide express transportation to the center of the map (The capture point).

Um, so is it possible to make trains function well enough in source to build a semi-serious map around them? Also, does sentry building, etc. work on trains?

EDIT: Decided to be more specific: Is it a good idea to make a semi-serious map that takes place 1/2 of the time on a train? Or is the netcode not really up to the challenge of moving players around on a train?

It will work. But you'll have to put nobuild on the trains, otherwise engineers can build stuff on them, that gets stuck in the air.

It might provide some FPS drawback for players with a older pc.

And tbh, i don't think the idea would really work, depending on how open the train is snipers get disadvantage/advantage. Engineers might be left out, etc.
It could work, but it requires some serious balance.

Yeah, I learnt that too with the boat race map on the playtest sunday. Funny idea but it just can't work with the slightest bit of latency. (Might work in LAN games though)
