Please vote.
We are contemplating on integrating heat maps in to our game days for our users.

Thanks.

Pointless, most people get their map run for 30 minutes at a gameday and then have a new version for the next week's gameday. leaving people with not enough data to be worth it.

Since you need 500+ kills at a bare minimum for the heatmap to be of any worth it will never be of use to anyone

Yes, but I think a map would have to be run on a few gamedays before anything useful would come out of it. I'd limit it to beta stage maps, and make the author do the overview, coords, and other necessary prep.

I said yes, as I am a fan of any form of feedback.

I gather the amount of activity seen on a single map from a gameday isn't much for a heatmap.

I yearn for something, for smaller amounts of activity, that would draw a line along a players path, then display them all at once after a match, so you could see where the web of paths is thickest. But I gather that doesn't exist. :(

You could make the same observations by playing a demo back super-high speed.

Yes.

Every gameday I've managed to be in has been filled to the limit with Players on every map. Sometimes the Death Notices just zoom by.

It would be helpful to the mappers because you'd be able to find the chokepoints in a full-server test of the current map version.

My two cents.

Do Demo's show all players movements? I thought they just followed one?

If they follow all players, then that would be great.

(Do they include text/voice messages as well?)

Yes. Although Youme has made valid points i still think it would be useful for those who run beta's for extended periods of time.

I'm not sure how heatmaps would run on a server, like.. automatically? I would only request one if i figured it would be helpful such as if i wasn't going to update the map for a while. I would not have 'ordered' a heat map between B1 and B2 of Avante as it was only 2 weeks and i know what i needed to do. But it may be more useful on late Beta's.

thanks for stealing my gimmic :p

as I mentioned a bit earlier...in less pubic channels, id like to set up a massive stats database for this site, so this would not just be pulling deaths from the tf2maps gameday server, but the z server, and any other servers i can find willing to give me access to their logs, this will allow kill data to become exceedingly easy to generate

youme is part right in his opinion, you are very unlikely to get any useful data from a single 30min slot on gamday, the difference being that 1000 is the min to get useful data, as a reference, 24 players over the course of an hour only generate about 1200 deaths, 3000 deaths is where you want to be for accurate data

if this does happen, then it will need to be the mapper that is responsible for getting the overlay and the coordinates

and i still want to be the one running this :p

I was thinking about it..and it would be a good idea for an event in addition to gameday. Through judicious decision by the executive council and approval by the illuminati, a map could be deemed "ready for heat mapping" and be added to a special list.

Then, every week on a predetermined day and time, let's say Thursday 7 pm central for this example, we could have "heatmapping day" event..and play through the special list of maps. Of course, the authors of the maps on the list and any authors ever wanting to have their map heatmapped would show and try to get people...

It'd be kind of like a gameday only for maps that were in late beta or something

Didn't updated my heatmaps for a long time but I used to create heatmaps for the maps my server is running.
If someone is interested and has a playable map, I can do it.
If tf2maps.net wants to run it, I can provide logs.
