the reason we shipped it in the last update, even though there was no real reason at all to use it, was to get some real world testing. So thanks to the 270 people who went ahead and deleted items!

We're going to try a few different things, but the first ones won't manifest themselves inside the game itself, because it'd allow servers to cheat the system.

But seriously... the whole thing is 'meh'. It doesn't answer a whole lot for me, and it introduces just as many mild dislikes as it does dismiss ones I had previously assumed.

This post is just full of negativity.
I'm optimistic about what Valve has in the works :D

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Fuck you Valve for fucking up this game. RPG style mechanics? With the trouble your having balancing the current class updates, chances are your never going to balance these new ones, causing the downfall of the game we all fucking love.

Shit.

Always expect the worse from Valve. After the BB +50 health and the sandman I have lost all faith in them.

EDIT: Instead of making cosmetic shit, they should work on bringing teh heavy, spy, and engi back into comp play. All they need to do is grab some top Cevo-p players and Chro, and playtest with them, not Joe-Shmoo that they grabbed on the street.

What Robin confirmed:
-Hats don't have gameplay implications
-You can earn weapons in ways other than achievements

Where your concern comes from:
-No fucking clue

Spy and Heavy have their uses in comp play and it's ignorant to say otherwise. Two best teams in the game used both in ESEA finals. Oh, they used engineer too! Why? Because they weren't playing a 5cp push map: class balance is largely map based. An engineer can be worth it on an a/d map to help with teles and sentry lockdowns, while the back and forth of a 5 cp doesn't have as much room for him.

yep...the general negativity this group has towards...well...everything new is kinda irritating
i personally like the idea of tf2 being a sandbox for new ideas, it opens the door for epic things, and really fail things until the community makes them fix it...

and the research benefits are huge, if they can release a change to one game and it goes over really well, it can be added to the plans for a future game, and if it fails...they don't need to scrap an alpha game, just revert back. Personally I see this info gathering as a much more valuable reason for continuing the updates as opposed to a few more sales.

one thing that can be said though...I give very low odds of tf2 ever becoming WoW...for the simple reason that with the amount of time it takes valve to release new things, it will be years before the rpg elements are ever as large as WoW <_<

EDIT: And nice, a new comp vs non comp debate has begun XD

Comp sucks! Non comp ftw!

Overall a "meh" interview. We heard that the hats doesn't change anything in the game, but honestly, who other than Mar thought the hat's would be a huge change? I wanna hear some more about the sniper update and the hat update!

Yet.

Personally, I would rather they introduce the missing class-packs before moving on to new craziness.

Yes yes yes YES YES! Faith in Valve restored!

Definitely, I personally emailed robin after three of the four class packs to date, in the first (post-medic to which I got a posetive responce) asking for the complete and utter decoupling of unlocks from achievements, then with each one after praised that the achievements were becoming more sensible and that the threshhold had been lowered but still asking for less dependancy on achievements.
So I'm glad they're being decoupled.

I also can't see why anyone has any objections to any of the new things suggested recently.. you just love to hate?

The trouble is as a "level designer" (Designer being the key word, as the skill and trail of thought crosses all design industry) you can appreciate the benefits in ways other people can't. I imagine most people resent the idea that their game will be used as an experimental platform, constantly being poked and prodded. When they just want to play a game of TF2.

I'm impartial to this.. development. Now that i'm used to the changes braught by the achievements/unlocks i'm used to this evolving game, and it's mood swings. Is all i can say is:

"This will be interesting."

Yep, I did.

Anyway, I don't see any issues. Hats could be cool, if you get killed by a soldier with a fishbowl on his head so many times you'll know who to avoid :)

It would also be cool to have them for minor tweaks to how you character plays.
Maybe the fishbowl could trap air and give you more swim time?

I'm totally stoked I won't have to go a farm my scout achievements (I only have one or two). And the sandman isn't a problem anymore any moreso than the blautsauger or bb. It was just that first few weeks of 20 baseballs flying in every direction that sucked.

But I won't be happy until they implement a tattoo shop so I can get my beloved Sandvich permanently adheared to my left gun.

Hearing that we'd get the rest of the videos was enough to make me happy.
