Arena_Trainstation

New map-name suggestions are welcome

Conclusions after having the map tested on the gameday:
- The "roof" is too big an advantage for blue
- The map is too open, everything need to be about 0,75 its size

The idea is to make a completely unsymmetric arena map, with advantages and disadvantages for both teams. Why unsymmectric? you think. Because many people dont like arena maps, because its too much of the same, so i thought that making an unsymetric arena map would make the game more variated, and therefore better, even though it will be hard to balance.
Blue spawns in the tunnel that goes under the tracks, and have acces to all the platforms, and the "roof" that is over all the platforms and leads to the big house right next to the cp.
Red spawns a little away from the tracks, but they can get to the house next to the cp quicker than blue, and they also have access to the roof.
The only medkit in the map is placed away from the cp, and right next to a tunnel. You cant see into the tunnel, and a train comes out of the tunnel every 5-20 seconds.

Known bugs/issues an a2a

- Train sounds playing at the wrong time
- Bad playerclipping
- Rockets and Grenades can shoot trough the trains
- Trains just doesnt work as i would like them to :glare:

Things to consider

- Replace the small health pack with a medum one?
- New geometry/layout in the house by the cap?
- Better excuses for metalroof/whatever access?
- Too open?

Below is an overview of the map.

Red circle is red spawn
Blue Circle is blu spawn
Red lines are red tunnel
Blue lines are blu tunnel
Blue/green dot is health pack
Green places are ways to get to the roof
White Circle is the CP
Purple spots are sniper spots
White lines is indoor geometry
Dark Green lines are tracks where the train drives

And maybe theres an easter egg

arena maps tend to be symmetrical so both sides have no advantage over the other, it does not look symmetrical to me :\

Read the post. It's his intention to have the map unsymmetrical.

Looks cool. Are those custom track models?

Good luck, but this seems like it will be murder to balance.

you know what red is going to do? they are closer to the cap so they have a defensive advantage. they are just going to sentry spam the point before blu even reaches it. imagine if your playing dustbowl and the red got time to set up sentries then the gates open and they get to cap the neutral point, thats what is going to happen when people actually play it.

I will use this one for sure

Blue spawn is actually closer to the cp than red (red spawns in the bottom right corner of the image)... I made it that way because i though that the big building might be too big an advantage for red... maybe i should move the red spawn further away... i dunno :p

anyways thanks for the feedback :D

No its not custom track models :p its just lots of those small pieces, because it was the only way i could make the track turn.

Unsymmetrical arena is fine, people tend to roam to the other side anyways. Lumberyard isn't even symmetrical either.

Lumberyard isn't even symmetrical either.

Lumberyard has a quite a few examples of symmetry in it. The entire cap building is symmetrical, the far sides where each spawn building is located are symmetrical. In fact, the only part that isn't symmetrical are just the side paths around the cap building.

Bomc, if you're still in need for some more track models be sure to check out these custom track models: http://forums.tf2maps.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=712

@Cerious: Lumberyard is 99% symmetrical. When i say symmetrical i mean that red and blu sides are the same, not thet the left and right side are the same, because the sides are the same for both teams anyways

@MungoKing: Sry, but i cant use those tracks :( they are mine tracks (for payload and stuf), The train is much wider
