i know im new here everyone so please dont misunderstand my suggestions as a complaint.

CURRENT FORMAT IS AWESOME AND UNPRECEDENTED

i was looking at the excellent map thread format that we have with all the nice features attached to it, when i realized that it could go one better.

its great that we have the screenshot window, and that info bar on top for updates and map name, etc.

....but... everytime you want to update your map progress it is going ot be of one of two ways both of which i think arent as good as a blog/thread hybrid format im about to propose.

CURRENTLY WAYS TO UPDATE YOUR PROGRESS TO OTHER MEMBERS

the two ways are:

  • adding a post which eventually gets lost in the sea of replies as time goes by and its not clear which replies relate to updates
  • updating your OP which doesnt bump your thread up + makes for really long OPs + constant juggling of images between screenshot window and post embedded images when updating your images

PROS OF A BLOG FORMAT

  • whats cool about the default blog format is that you can make each new entry from you to be an update for your map. its dated and logged as a seperate entry.
  • comments would then be specific to each update and the information contained within.
  • the map thread is essentially intended to be a blog if im not mistaken. the point is to showcase you design process in a journal format.

A HYBRID?

is it do-able? i've never seen the features we have on the map thread [screenshot window + info bar] on any other forum. whoever was able to implement those in a thread could probably do so as well in a blog??

well the hybrid would essentially be:

  • the entry/comments format of a blog with a screenshot window and infobar for each entry.
  • the info bar however, when edited is changed for every entry automatically.
  • latest entry will always show in the main blog menu
  • any other ideas.

so what do you guys think???

I think a better way to post map updates would be awesome. I mean, the bumping your own thread after modifying the OP just because modifying the OP doesn't register as an update (show up as a new post) is kinda lame. otoh...I don't know if anyone has updated a blog since I've been a member (aside from the one blog I made...which I don't think showed up as a new post either).

Really though, each map would need to be it's own blog to keep it orderly.

blogs are useless by nature, unless of course people care what you do :)
