Is it possible to convert a .MAX file into a proper hl2/tf2 model format to be used in hammer?

with out having 3dmax

Also to re skin a model in tf2, is that are ridiculous process or is it at all as simple as just edited the vtx file and make the prop use that skin

.max is a 3ds max scene file, so you would need 3ds max to do anything with it.

For the skin, you'd have to decompile, then recompile the model with the new skin or hex it.

just re skinning isn't hard, just replace the original texture.

Compling a model from a max file is easy if you know how... google some tutorials to learn it, or ask someone here to do it for you. (dont ask me, because i've taken a break on taking requests)

Can you link a tutorial to HEX change skins?
I've only found how to change the model name.
