Hello There,

First of all i like to tell you im the new guy here and im from germany, so my english could suck a bit, but i hope its still enough for communication :D

This is my new map and i like to share some screens with you so u can get some impressions, ideas and critics of course.

Its not compiled yet, because my pc is a bit slow, but ok i think the screens are enough for taking a look at the design and stuff.

As you may see i like that old looking farm stuff and the patches and trash stuff for that "old and used" look.

Anyway thanks for taking a look i hope u got some good tips for me.

Hey that looks really nice, but for those wooden patches, what about trying a different skin on those? Their colour doesn't really fit the rest of the building in my opinion. Keep it up!

welcome! I don't think your bad english would be a problem ;).
Nice details you got there :D, but what kind of gametype is it?

And do you know that you can compile faster if you have the option "Run VIS" on fast?

it's called '3 cp defend' I think but most people refer to it as 'gravelpit'.

Looks nice so far. Don't forget cubemaps and don't use model textures. Those are some of the most commmon mistakes.

When you say trash I think garbage like the plastic and whatnot people throw into their trashcan daily. And though I live on a small "farm" but having been to other "farms" (my great grandma's) there's not typically house trash but rather old farm equipment gets piled up, etc.

Not sure if its the same way in Germany, and I couldn't see any trash in your screenshots so you could already be planning on old equipment.

ah k

btw. Model Textures are? and why shouldnt i use them?
Ive just been told recently to stay away from prop textures because the blink black after compile and stuff.

How do i know which textures are recomended for cubemaps? I know some rooftypes and Watertextures but is there a official list? Would be nice to post a link or something :)

And: Well i think tf2 is not a graphic Uber, but it has its own style (its reminding me a bit on the Timesplitters 2 Western Maps), so i try to make a good combination of Simple but good looking details, ive never lived on a farm, but for sure the german farms look a bit different then the tf2 or u.s.

I Would like to know if you got the time to take a look at the compiled map (use spectate function, i failed to create a working spawn xD) if there are any design mistakes or stuff like that. I know its a pretty early version, but ive spend already over 15 Hours for it, so its better to know my own mistakes from the beginning :)

So far, thanks for feedback, ive also taken a look to the other community maps and they are pretty impressive, but im still to noobish to give any tips or stuff^^

Make sure that wood and any of your other textures don't have "model/" in them.

It can really screw up your map.

Model textures get funky lighting. They look fine in the editor but bad in game. If you search "wood" most of the non-model textures are near the bottom of the list.
