Ah nice - another detailing contest. I missed the last one because I didn't have much time left, but thank you for this one! :)

just to be clear....In the original post it says arena, but I'm assuming that was a typo and you meant to say area, correct? so this could be possibly used for a 5-cp map.

No I meant 'arena', but that doesn't mean 'arena_'
The central capture points of 5 point maps are in an arena, and thats what you're to make for this.
But the idea behind it is 5 point map not an arena_ map.

This is sounding pretty cool.

As limiting as 'making each side team based' sounds it really leaves it wide open.
Maps that are strange that fit the bill could be anything: 2 fort, mach, the one with the two big trucks... You can always tell which side you are on.

I think only including one screen and a bsp is a good idea. Hopefully it will encourage more people to go in game and look (only took me half hour max to run through all the intels).
Also a good idea to leave the useage up to the mapper IMO. Just in case someone is serious about finishing it up. I'm even considering using my intel room after I made it :)

Looks like next contest will have to be cap point #2 ;)

considering this is amiddle point AND is requiring distinct red/blu sides, i don't see that there actually is any different between making an arena or a 5-point cp centre point. they'd both require pretty much the same design point.

*sigh* Another detailing contest? I understand some people enjoy detailing, but I was hoping for a contest based on gameplay. In my humble opinion, gameplay is much more important than aesthetics.

Oh well, if I come up with something I'll give it a shot.

You're not wrong; I think most people here agree with you. Unfortunately, designing good gameplay is not a problem that's easily reduced to a size suitable for these mini-contests. That's why the site holds larger contests for full-size maps from time to time.

What's with these "functionality isn't important" guidelines? The point (hahahahha) of making a control point area is to create one that presents some interesting gameplay. Just making it pretty is like detailing any old area.

Try changing the first number in your Steam ID to a 0 (or 1 if it already is).
or use your steam username, like mine is "marmalade_tim" and it shows up fine.

The point is its detailing practice, the area chosen keeps people working with the same ideas in their head. After all a contest thats "Detail whatever you want as best you can" would be no fun.

Gameplay comes in the larger contests, if gameplay is what you're after you're free to work on your own map and there will be another larger contest in a while*.

*NB: Any details about another large contest are yet to be decided.

Thats ok! keep the rest of the map, just cut out everything beyond the centre point and save it for after the contest! (since .vmf submission is now non-compulsory you don't have to worry about someone else using it)

It would still be nice to have a working mid capture point so that the player can be immersed in the setting more. Screenshots wont show a hud anymore but it'll look more appropriate seeing the mid point as it should be (animated etc).

I was intending to enter this but i just got a glimpse of my next uni project :/ We'll see what happens..

Damn I'm trying to get some good idea but all i can think about is how the 3D skybox should look like :/

No size limits but recommended of 2024-ish for total area, no 3D skybox allowed

So that should solve your problem right there :p
