Really, this is disappointing. I've seen a few posts today that had the sort of text ads that place themselves IN the text of posts, looking exactly like a link until you mouse over it and find a completely irrelevant ad (why would I be interested in ads that base themselves on the phrase "when I saw"?).

They're so damn annoying. I'd rather have another banner right on the top of the forum instead of this crap, so I hope you can do something about it.

I noticed the same thing yesterday and really, this is the most annoying form of advertisement found on web forums.

I think the problem lies in the fact that these ads are indistinguishable from a normal link, as MrMuffinMan pointed out. Would it be more acceptable if these ads used a different color? Most of the forums I visit that also employ such advertising keep these hot-links as bright blue or green. I'm curious if these are click-based like most, or do we actually get paid for simply having them?

They were in double-underlined flashy green two days ago, which was equally bad in my opinion (distinguishable yes, but an attention catcher that distracts you from the rest).

I'll keep my subscription status active if you don't have this sort of advertisement. Placing ads in the text of my posts is almost as offensive as pop-up flash advertisements....and if advertising is that important to you...you obviously won't need my donations.

Sadly, as a donator I don't have to see the ads so I didn't know you were pulling this sort of behavior.

Hey grim =)

With ad's and sub account Pepper is still not breaking even and he doesn't mind that to much as every bit does help and he / we thank you all very much.

As he said we are trying out different advertising ways as we always have and seeing what will work and what will not work.

Having a website is cheap, domain and your $6 a month you're golden.
Running a community site is much, 2x much, much, much more expensive

What we are trying to do is not ruin your viewing experience. A lot of ads take up much needed screen place, some more in your face then others. Like i said though, we are trying many options so please bare with us.

This new type of ads doesn't take screen space (much less than your typical banner), but it is certainly the supreme form of "in your face" action.

I like to test campaigns ateast a week before deciding wheter to keep them or not. Obviously this one already quite a few negative marks toward it.

I've changed the styling on the links to make them more distinguishable between ad links and real links.

Grim, consider yourself lucky that DJive got here first. What I wanted to say is far less pleasant ;) Being a free community, ads here will always be a trial and error thing. I think that putting up w/ a little inconvenience while we try new things is a small favor.

I must say, for a free community, this is very good and well run.
I don't mind putting up with a few ads if this website keeps going.

Same, although it'd be great if we could organize them a bit. I actually got an advertisement once in the box to the left of my post, there was a link for the "online now" part of the phrase, "StoneFrog is online now." :O

I don't think that anyone is blaming you for trying this new thing, but rather that we are sort of blaming you in advance were you to keep it :p Although I must say the new style is better.

Haha, it's funny, I have a link in the "online now" part of your sentence :D

I'm not inconvenienced...I don't even see the ads because I'm a donator. I'm just giving you feedback. Just letting you know that offensive ads will cost you at least one donator's donations.

I'm sorry if my feedback hurt your feelings.

and if i donate can someone tell me how to set up a system like the gameserver upload on my own redirect?

EDIT: n/m found it hidden at the bottom of the user cp <_<

Yeah, then comes the moral question: Are you rewarding donators, or punishing people who don't donate :)
