Posting map threads will be changing a little bit

Right now, everytime you upload a file to our file database, a thread gets made based on the category. We found this method to be extremely messy and repetitive.

So, introducing our new map thread submission system.

http://forums.tf2maps.net/forumdisplay.php?f=44

It's a new forum. Please read the sticky before making a post. The old forums (which are now locked but can still be viewed) will be archived in exactly one week. I am leaving them untouched for now for those who want to 'copy' some of their WIP and map threads to the new system.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks.

Update:

Created another forum for COMPLETED works only. This includes maps/models/textures/etc.

The other is a WIP forum to post works in progress.

I've edited a few map submissions to reflect map name, and not file name (no cp_, pl_, etc).

Update 03/25/09:
Added normal style comments to the new mapping section. Comments should now include avatar and all the other bits you know and love.

zomgz!

Looks quite a bit nicer, though the "published by" box on the right seems redundant.
yes it is. just a placeholder for now until the section becomes more populated with submissions.

A few more suggestions, as linear and A/D control point maps already differ alot i would say that those 2 should be split up to: Linear CP and A/D CP. Also, where is Territorial Control?

Then for the map name, i suggest having 2 name boxes for them. 1 should be the filename and 1 the map name. As there are quite some maps that do have a diffirent name from the filename (halfacre and stovepipe for example).

I like the new system however. Its by far more organized.

And another thing. Maybe its welcome to be able to give a few servers that do run the map so people see where they can play the map if they want to.

Also, for the ratings you shouldnt just let the average count of all the votes but instead also base the rating on the ammount of votes. On FPSB they do have that also but as we got a bit better community for rating here i expect that the same formula could already do better.

And as last it might be usefull to mark a map as favorite or simply mark it to find it back quickly.

Good work however. Its by far better then it used to be.

Just what we needed! I particularily like the upcoming "bug tracker w/ user input". That seems incredibly useful.

great feedback, and you have given me some great ideas to take this a bit further. ill add the tc_ and a/d cp options too. i love the bit about seeing what servers are running that specific map.

thanks again.

You might be able to set something using this URL - http://www.game-monitor.com/MapSearch/tf2/pl_hoodoo/ You can swap out "pl_hoodoo" for any map name and it shows you the servers running it, you can leave of the _bX bit at the end to see all versions being run. (you need the final slash for it to work)

I see the "published by" just dissapeared. Don't need avatars twice so thats a good thing, however perhaps adding in something to show collaborations clearly like the recent FPSB changes??

Another suggestion, Since I'm working in a partnership with someone, will there be an option to say that 2 people made it?

you mean collaboration credit?
ill have to think of something practical as a '2 person submission' isnt really plausible.

I mean you could have a authors bit and say who provided different parts to the map like if someone made textures, they could get given credit in that field.

Looks good. I wish it was easier to distinguish finished maps from WIPs though.

Request:

I was getting into making models for TF2.... but I lost both threads where I could make a thread to discuss them...

WIP is going away, and models is locked (at the moment, new threads on new submissions only?). That leaves mapping discussion, mapping contests, server discussion, and map submission. I'd like a place where I could get feedback on something besides maps - before I submit a crap, unfinished model.

Currently the alphabet links at the top are pretty useless since they go by the first character of the thread title which is generally going to be A, C, P or T (and sometimes a bracket *jabs youme*).

If we could recommend/enforce that thread titles be the name of the map, not filename, then the alphasorting would be useful. Though we might need another column on the page then that lists what checkbox was checked.

Good idea, I will later ad an input for the file name so i can integrate a 'search for servers playing this' option.

:)

Superb work, drpepper! There was significant redundancy in the map submission system.
