OK, had a bit of naming issues.

So I shortened it. Also had to go with 2 as my 1 file seemed messed up, I don't know, last minute rush work...

One rope won't behave and is falling thru floor :mad:

Took about 5 hours. Just decided to wing it today, last chance I had before contest was over.

Also didn't have time toi learn sprites or figure out how to get that cool map everyone else has.

I'm a bad mapper, coz i dont except help and have been trying to learn to texture a intel room, i wanted a big on i did what i though would be a big room, then after texturing half the room(badly) i found the player model thingy smiling a placed one...ragequit

Looks good frag, don't worry about the maning too much as long as its clear its yours (the biggest problem last time was I had no idea what .bsps I had were for the contest and what werent)

Looks like we've got some good entries so far, really going to be a tough competition :thumbup1:

Youme: Since we must submit an entry before Friday the 20th (mean the latest is at 11:59 on Thursday night), and I won't be finished with my finals, thus able to begin, until the 19th, what time must we have the entries in by? 11:59 on the 19th your time, or ours?
A few hours out doesn't matter, since I wont process the entries until about 3pm on the 20th anyway.

Also @ abbattoir - could you upload your .VMF as well please?

Thanks Youme, never knew what that tonemap control in the Valve-maps was good for :D

Since that, I already turned the whole map bit around, so the big mountain in the skytexture isn't to the right, but in front, should look a bit better :)

I'm almost finished with mine. It's taken me a lot longer than I thought it would, although this is really the first mapping thing I've taken from concept to fully detailed. Right I've got to finish up some displacements (still difficult, but much easier thanks to the tutorials by Youme and others), finish the lighting (fullbright is cruise control for cool), and add some last minute details.

My two biggest issues have been complexity (I should have done something a lot simpler) and scale. The original room I was working with was about 3x bigger than the final room. I still think its too big, but some of the structural details would be too much of a pain to shrink down.

ABBAttoir: I really like the idea of having the intel underwater. Its such a simple concept that completely changes how to assault and defend a intel room.

Velvet, is that wall texture some sort of computer wall? I've been trying to find the red of parts in Quarry

Yes, it's one of the computerwall textures, I don't remember its name. If you want to know which one, just download the .vmf (you'll find my map in the contest upload thread) and look at it in Hammer.

If you want to know the name of a texture in-game, point your crosshairs at it and use "mat_crosshair" in the console; that'll let you find out the one in Quarry.

I got a really good idea for another entry but can't do anything about it now. I doubt I can map an Intel Room in 4-ish hours on Friday...

It sucks to only map friday-monday.

Meh, I'll just turn the idea into RED's spawn in Riverside.

Looks great but too much lighting everywhere, needs shadows etc.

and there you have it, the reason I've been in the SDK 24/7 since the contest was announced. :p

Darn VRAD issues had me hung up yesterday... it sucks when it takes an hour of compiling to reach the bounce process just to find out if you've fixed the lighting error or not :( Final compile ended up at ~105 minutes.

Also: cookies for whoever can spot every abnormally-used prop without opening the VMF.

edit2: make sure to go red and pick up the intel... it's spotlight turns off :)

I have to agree. I thought I had a good chance at this contest, then saw a couple that made me cuss because they were so nice.

Definatetly some stiff competion. But, I got to say that everyone made something that looked good. Hopefully everyone pushed themselves beyond what they normally do for a full map. I know I went a bit nuts with the details I would have ignored.
