Hi, I just started using sdk this week (yay) and I was wondering if anyone had any tips on spicing up a map.

I have tried using lighting but then the indoors are far to dark, also how do I make terrain uneven, and what are some nicer textures, when I work on layout I just use brick and other than making me dizzy it does nothing.

Thanks for all the help RichT

Don't give up on the lighting, fullbright (what the engine does when you don't use lighting) is completely unacceptable.

Do you have light entities indoors, like lamps and such?

Well I tried using an env_lightglow, but the rooms were far to dark, or maybe it was the env_sun outside that was to bright.

neither env_lightglow or env_sun generates light.

try using light_spot and light_environment instead

or even use the entity "light"
a tutorial may help you to understand how these work.

to make bumpy terrain you have to use displacements - i'd suggest doing a search for a tutorial on this. there are some good ones in the tutorial section of this forum.

it can take a lil bit of time and work to learn the nuances of making levels, but don't lose faith, once you know the tricks you'll be glad you do. and of course don't be afraid to ask if you get stuck.

I would say you will learn how to make better maps by yourself, just experimenting.

Vertex.

Drop your grid down to 8,4 or sometimes 2 and have at it =)
