Best webhost for fast dls?

T

The Asylum

To make a long story short, my last convo with my "current" webhost ended with them saying something to the effect of "LOLOLOL TOO LATE WE HAVE YOUR MONEY NOW *offline*"

So which ones would you guys reccomend?

a host ive had great success is hostgator.
use coupon code 'lucky' to get 20% off

most reviews for them are positive.
they have been around a long time and the times ive used them in the past, they've been great.

based on a few ive tried, I can't really recommend any one, but you should try to get a webhost that is situated close to your server, so that way the people who get low pings on your server also get the fastest possible download

like...my webhost (deisehost.com) and l4d server (magnirack.com) are located in texas (same owner too), and people that got 40 or less ping on my server were downloading at up to 1MB/s, whereas me with my 60-80 ping was downloading at 200-300kb/s (the downloads were back when i had a tf2 server)

I run several tf2 servers, alot of them are more than a simple web host. Any how hostgator, dreamhost, 1and1 are all pretty big names. As to download speeds im not sure it all depends on the server. Alot of these web hosts, cap bandwith too the machine. Like stated try to get one in the same state as your game server.
You can look here. for reviews on hosts.

What amount of map usage are we talking because i can set aside mirror space on my mirror server. Granted I would want an advert on the motd saying mirror provided by my clan.

I just donated to TF2maps.net so I could use this redirect....are you guys telling me it's not good enough?

our redirect is hosted on a virtual private dedicated server.
its on a 100mb connection.

its way better than shared hosting :)

its a simpler/cheaper route to donate here and get access to the redirect, but if you want ftp/website a shared hosting account is best.

Careful with hosting your own stuff. If you have a bandwidth cap it can happen quickly. On a month where I add a bunch of new maps (since regs only have to download maps once) I get close to 100GB of map downloads in a month.
