I don't think the maps suck. I think they are the best community maps I have ever seen. I'm just saying I'd much prefer something made by Valve.

They are hinting a new map as you could see in the blurred background. Best for last.

TBH most of the finished maps here aren't any better gameplay-wise than egypt...although I do enjoy a couple of the payload contest maps, but I guess they were all too new or unfinished to be included in this update.
I can name a dozen maps that top Egypt in any measure of gameplay quality (although to be fair, it could turn out to be quite interesting in competitive play - but there's no way I'd add it to a public server rotation). Of course, a dozen out of the hundred that have been published is a small fraction, but officialized maps are an even smaller fraction.

I don't really have anything against Egypt, but I really disliked that another slot got used for community maps.

But the 2 last slots will have a new game mode (I heard that it's going to be different from the other gamemodes) and dual-payload (That also means better HUD for the mappers that do dual-payload), Hopefully one of the slots will also have Meet the *Spy or medic*

I was really pleased with Valve's choices.

I would think since Valve is showing strong support for community maps it would make most of us happy.

I tried a couple of the maps the other day.

Junction was surprisingly fun...despite the fact that I was on a very unintelligent team. I see no reason to be disappointed with Junction. Egypt, on the other hand, didn't turn out to be so great in my opinion. It's definitely an Engineer's paradise. A camping, defensive Engineer, that is.

I still haven't played Watchtower more than a couple of times a while ago, but as I might have mentioned, I remember this map being very fun because it's different.

1. It's free.

We can get the maps for free already... but that's beyond the point.

I still think Egypt is a horrible choice, it takes everything we've been trying to replicate in terms of theming, then smacks us in the face.

I dont mind that egypte is in the update. in fact, i find it a good choise. Even though valve has quite a forced style they like new ones and egypte definitely is one. Too bad his other map junction is also added as its quite unfair to me to have 2 maps from 1 person in such updates. I rather would have seen a map made by someone else, it would also result in another happy mapper.

Another thing i also noticed is that valve tends to pick maps that are made in high quality but just didnt reach it (they were somewhat forgotten). The highly popular maps which many times are even better in gameplay usualy arent interesting for them because people play those anyway and those maps dont feel new then. But that a single mapper has 2 of those maps doesnt mean that both should be promoted, if they didnt know any more 'not so popular' maps then they better should have added one that is popular already and of high quality.

I always felt that Valve only liked to pick out fan-made content that seemed "Valve-ish". I mean, look at the mods they recognized. They are all either essentially rehashes of their own games or a singleplayer campaign with relatively little custom content. Valve only seems to pick out mods that are either carbon copies of their work or incredibly original (such as Zombie Panic, which is terribly overhyped).

Ever notice how they ignore They Hunger? Sven Co-op? Obsidian Conflict? They're all TOO unique for them whilst still using Valve conent. Ah smells me sum conspiracy.

Oh, of course, cp_egypt breaks this theory.

I'll once again clarify my position on this update, since people seem to be fairly anti-critique around here.
Egypt: Horribly imbalanced past stage 1; yards of unused, battleless-space; interior lighting completely washes out team colors- it's very difficult to determine who is who inside of them, a major part of Valve's art direction is making players clearly visible.
Junction: A bit small; sentries stack very well. Still one of the prettiest spytech maps out there; map inspired me to learn TF2 mapping.

Why I object to these selections: Heyo is an incredible mapper, even since CS:S days. His skills have only been improving; junction, scaled too small, was succeeded by egypt, scaled too large, and then by oilfield and harvest. Oilfield and harvest are in the top 10 most polished community maps-with very careful art direction and tons of neat custom materials that could have been utilized by other mappers if they had been selected.

There's nothing wrong with 2 heyo maps. I just wish they were the other two ;)

always do <_<
normal custom maps still fit in the vanilla category

Oh. Well very few of you play only official maps?

I guess my point is most of us probably don't play on servers that are going to force these maps on us just because they're "official" now.

That's hardly the reason anyone here is objecting or expressing any dismay. Some of the reasons are selfless: someone may simply want recognition to go to a map or mapper that he or she thinks deserves it more. Some are a little closer to home: someone (like me) may not want Valve to send the wrong message to the kind of crowd who does play on stock-only servers and already is prone to dismissing custom maps as poor quality and not worth their time.

I actually liked tc_hydro...good spread-out action whilst still being confined to a fairly realistic area. It was a spy's haven.

I think you guys missed the cool part. FASTLANES GOT PATCHED AND REWORKED!

Hopefully this will fix the awful stalematey last point.
