A Dustbowl-style control point map, Egypt is visually striking, full of great combat spaces, and features some really interesting uses of vertical space. Classes with the ability to ascend rapidly (Soldiers, Demomen, and Scouts using the new scattergun unlockable ) have lots of options for traversing the arenas. In addition, the ruins provide Engineers with a large number of potential sentrygun locations.

well i admit egypt's visually appealing somewhat, however it's a map i get consistantly lost in even after playing it for a number of times (all the corridors like identical), and really, it don't match the style of tf2 in my opinion

Am I the only one who thinks that the "cp_fastlane update" didn't need its own place in the update list... thing...?

Nope, should've just been a sidenote in the update files...

Valve really should've done all the community maps in one.

Yeah they should have, but this way they can have 6 items. If they put them all together it wouldn't sound as awesome.

I think it's hard not to complain... this is a clearly unbalanced map, at least by Valve standards. Have Valve completely forgotten how important balance is? Not to mention this is a pretty useless update - it could have been fit into the other custom maps update.

Still. Congratulations again, Heyo.

EDIT: Why are people complaining about the Fastlane update, though? For instance, have you ever had any fun playing on the last point? No, you haven't. We needed this update.

Were you guys expecting the equivalent of an unlock announcement for all 6 updates? Something has to fill the gaps. The fastlane fix is (so far) my favorite thing out of this update :)

I think we were all kind of expecting the last few to be the scattergun unlock, the new mode and a Meet the Team video. Obviously there's only room for two, and it seems like Meet the Team won't be included. If they manage to squeeze a Meet the Team video in elsewhere or release it in another way (through the blog at a slightly different date, like they sort of did with Meet the Scout), though, I will be content. And the rest of you should. The lack of remaining space is all that really worries me.

Egypt is ok as a map but the theme does not fit tf2 and especially official maps as i (and propably other people too) see it. I really dont get this one, why not choose the map and do some redesigning for the theme?

But anyways, congatulations to Heyo!

New Fastline seems nice too, im starting to like the map more lately.

Where is the love for Frieght!

And fastlane needed the fix for the last point and the area between the last and second.

It still gets me how people can be disappointed in free updates.

it's cos people get hyped up leading up to something big (like a class update release, or a new game release or similar), and naturally real life can rarely live up to expectations that grow and grow in the time before anything is announced officially.

also muffinman, you forgot the offical valve maps in the update haven't been announced either yet (we know one payload map for sure, and at least one more for the new game mode... though based on the softdrink weapon announcement's background, i'd wager they're one and the same)

Right now the current dustbowl theme is tired and overly used with the alpine theme slowly gaining popularity. It's nice to see a different color besides orange.

It still gets me how people can be disappointed in free updates.

Community maps are already free, so the thing that they add is public awareness of custom content. As creators of custom content, we should all want the best possible reflection of our work. So it's quite a valid concern for us that Valve chooses maps that won't make the broader player base view custom maps in a negative light.

As for the rest of the "free" updates, it's possible to be disappointed because anything that changes the nature of the game could potentially change it for the worse, which devalues our purchase. If you took your car into the dealership for service, and they upgraded your radio free of charge, you'd naturally be happy. If you then found out the radio only plays even numbered stations on weekends and spits out CDs on days that start with T, you'd be justifiably concerned.
