Well, people may not have noticed this yet, but that's the official TF2Maps EU server, hosted by me (I haven't really been plugging it since it's been in an useless state for quite a while). Since we finally have an EU server, I was wondering if people would be interested in doing a European version of gameday, with focus on European mappers (but of course, Americans/Asians/Aussies/etc can join too!).

First question: Would you like this to happen? Do you think it's necessary? Would you submit your map and join? Or would it be a useless "fifth weel" on the gameday wagon?

If you like the idea, when should it be held? I'd say it should definitely not be held at the same time as the existing one, for starters.

And finally, for this to happen, the server would need admins. Volunteers, feel free to speak up!

Well, I've made the suggestion, time for you to answer. :)

Good Idea, I dont mind being an admin, but I'd need to be shown how everything works etc but I don't want to be first choice if we have admins already. This could be done on a weekday after 6pm GMT? I know I'd be free for most of the week (I play rugby on wednesdays) And sometimes my brother wants to use the computer so I couldnt always make it. It would be preferable weekend (Friday?) but I know the other one goes on over Sat and Sun.

Well, admins wouldn't have much of a problem. The server's got sourcemod, which means everyone who has permission can type "!admin" to get a handy menu for all they need.

I like it. I wouldn't mind having admin status, I have administrated a few other servers in the past (not only for tf2) so I know my way around there.

An EU server will probably work very well IF it gets proper scheduling and gamedays are planned the same way it is for the US servers.

I don't like that focus on european mappers thing...it encourages an attitude of "well, we can screw the EU guys on US gamedays now, as they have their own" and vice versa.

Just because I'd have bad ping on a server doesn't mean that my maps should be second string to yours.

I really like it, because the "screw you" mentality doesn't have to be there. I almost never attent to gamedays due the time and ping of them. If they are on playable ping and time i would join them.

Let me word this slightly differently.

My idea is that the gameday on the Euro server would primarily - but not entirely - exist to give European mappers perfect times for testing and much better ping, since half of the current gameday is taking place very late for most of us and is very laggy for many. Of course, any others would be able to test their maps as well. I'm definitely not trying for a "screw you" solution. :)

Hell, you could probably call this an international gameday, only it's on an EU server with slightly earlier times.

I think it's a great idea... What about adding the idea that the same Gameday is run twice, once on a US server, and once on a UK server...?

All the same maps would be run (?) on both servers, and everyone would then come back (in their own time) to TF2maps and report their suggestions, as well as discussing things in-game.

One downside to this, is that it seems like there's not enough players to fill the servers for the entire test rotation already, and I can't imagine anyone playing on the UK server for 6 hrs, and then also moving to the US server for the same rotation.... so maybe my thought is a dead end. (?)

Absolutely, I would come to an European gameday. About the time thing, how about scheduling it for the weekend after the US gameday (preferably Sunday-ish as I have to work on Saturday)

MrMuffinMan, I tried to join the server but I get kicked during "Retrieving Server Information" with this error display: Host_Error: Server is enforcing file consistency for particles/water.pcf. The current map was Cashworks B2.

That sounds strange. Sadly, I have no idea what can cause this or how to fix it. I'm a real noob with servers, to be honest. I've been sort of relying on Immortal-D for doing some magic stuff to the server, but I don't know if he's done with setting it up properly yet. I could probably ask him about this.

It's probably a good idea. Just based on the time difference alone. You guys are like 7 hours ahead of me.

If the servers both ran the same rotation it might work pretty good.

exp:
EU
map 1
map 2...
map 6
map 7

US
map 1
map 2...

map 6
map 7

depending on players time alot of people could end the EU day then go to the start of the US day. That way you could play the last 4 maps, then the first 4.
I think this would help alot to for the US mappers who don't get the euro crowd because its at the end of the day and getting late. It would be at a better time for them and we could get on early to play with them or just stay late to play final rounds.

Anyway, it would give a better spread of time for all maps to get tested. I can handle a bit of bad ping now and then.

The only issue is the same we always have, getting people to post their feedback in the WIP threads...as it'll be less likely for an author to make both runs of his map

I'm not liking the spreading of gameday out across everywhere. Basically, we can't get enough people to one gameday, much less three. One server, one time guarantees everyone knows where to be and when to show up. We just can't possibly populate more than one server consistently for the entirety of gameday.

Sure, there are quite a few EU people where who will not have the best of pings, but ping becomes irrelevant when no one is getting useful or decisive feedback because we have three server with 6 people on each running different rotations.

One server worked. Let's go back to one server.

I agree completely. However, there's no need to worry about that, any gameday on a European server would not be the same day as the one on the US server. Right now the gamedays on the US servers are on both Saturday and Sunday, though, so I guess the gameday on the EU server would have to be on Friday or something.

I definitely want to try and better accommodate our friends across the pond. For now, you can create your own events; http://forums.tf2maps.net/forumdisplay.php?f=35 The issue of not having enough people has been resolved, for the most part. I'll be putting up the new gameday thread sometime Sunday/Monday. We can try for Friday night Euro. Or if there's a small number of entries, just make Saturday or Sunday on the European server.
