Gamedays on Sunday?

Hi all,

I'm nearly always very busy Saturday afternoons and have never been able to make the gamedays (which for me start at 11). On the contrary, I'm nearly always free on Sundays and especially when I start having maps that I want tested I'd like to be around on the server when they're being played.

Has there been any movement to start another (possibly lesser) gameday on Sundays or move the current one? I would imagine that there are other mappers that would also benefit from the creation of a new gameday.

we already have a gameday scheduled for the 29, one week later would be the 6th, but I suppose we could try the 7th instead, and see how it goes as far as turnout.

I've also never been able to make a gameday. And I also have a lot more time on sunday.

Absolutely not.

Think about us Europeans. Gameday starts at 19:00 GMT (which for me is 20:00), and last very long, and by the time it's finished and I've got off the computer the time is usually past midnight. Quite simply, I'm not going to go to bed that late on a Sunday (the worst thing in the world is to be sleepy on Monday morning), which means I would stop attending gamedays if the day changes.

I understand your problem, but whatever happens, I'll only attend Saturday gamedays.

I wouldn't mind an additional GameDay as long as a map isn't playtested twice over a single weekend.

I am new here to TF2Maps.net...

However, I have a server I have recently dedicated to beta testing maps....

Perhaps we could work out something to offer an additional "GameDay" on Sundays, which I could host?

Just a thought...

I agree with 2 gamedays but the same map shouldn't be on both days (unless there was a lack of maps to choose from). and if there is only one day then i prefer it stay on saturdays because i am busy on sundays :(

This goes back to the early setup of game day where there would be 2 game days, 1 for the US on Saturday, fit for US times, and a second one on Sunday based upon UK times, on a UK server. It could still work with just one server, as we don't seem to have complaints about bad ping as we used to...

To be honest, it's a little weird. We always have tons of people that want their map tested, and tons of servers willing to test maps, but we never seem to have enough people willing to stop what they're doing and help test (at least not at the same time - you can usually average 4-8 ppl willing to test at most times of day).

I'm not sure what the solution is...but I honestly think we could find one if we all made a conscious effort to help establish an environment where there was more willingness to test each others maps...or a more consistent frequent testing schedule.

Personally, I'm still a big fan of developing a system where people get points/credits for time they spend helping people test maps - and those points/credits going towards preferential timeslots on testing days.

well...its not exactly surprising...
you can map when you have spare time, or whenever you feel like mapping, you can toss out servers for people to use no problem, but to get people together to test maps as a whole tends to require more effort then most people are willing to give, especially if you are going off of a smaller group of people. No one will always be free to test a map, nor will anyone ever always want to play.

There is not exactly that much that can be done about it...for an on the fly test you can get people on your friends list...but that is a slow process and never brings in a terribly large amount of people. Or a group event can be used, its easier to do but ends up with even less results as it is even more impersonal.

The best way and admittedly most difficult thing to do is to maintain a populated server where people can join whenever they feel like and that can take maps on the fly and get them going. Creating something like this requires a huge userbase though...and is something we are unlikely to achieve...

In my opinion the most accessible method for us is giving a mapper the tools needed to host a map test (server access, group chat and other such things) and make them responsible for populating the server...this happens to be the way it works now for the most part, it could be better, but it can work.

That's kind of what I was getting at...that perhaps by rewarding people for being willing to help test, they'd want to do it more often.

eh...I do think a point system would be kinda interesting...but I doubt it would promote anything more then temporary action...

Is it a concern of someone racking up points to get a prime slot, and never lifting a finger once they have a good amount? Temporary points would solve that.

Maybe the points could be used for more than just a map slot?

nah, I mean the site has had other incentive based things, and all that did was promote a sudden surge of activity that completely dies out in a few days

i´m always in for some random maptesting, just add me and invite me.
back to the op, relocating the testday to sunday would make it impossible for me to join,
i got ETF2-League matches on sunday always around the same time :/

What you could do to get playtime, is ask a clan or community if you can upload your map to their servers, and get as many of the members in as possible for feedback.

People usually thank even the most mediocre of feedback in their wip threads. That's usually enough incentive for people to flock to a thread and give feedback. Even though the thanks feature is still bugged. (I think?).

You could possibly adapt the thanks system but.. i really don't see where that'd go. A reward to the forum users for worthwhile activity is always good, the trouble is it also alienates the less active users.

It's all a matter of time and what people do with their live's.

A 10/10 for feedback may be an idea.. i dunno. When you start complicating thing's with stats people go crazy. Look at fpsb. Do we want that?
