An interesting idea, certainly. We already have a sticky for 'common mistakes and fixes' in the forum. But what qualifies 'intermediate discussion'? Suppose someone is on their very first map, but has a question about optimizing or design? Still, I think it's an idea worth exploring.

Ah, but therein lies the problem. Even for more complicated queries like 3d skybox and mixing game modes, there have been a number of threads about the topic already. So where to draw the line? Also to take into account our huge tutorial section, which covers a wide array of problems.

I think this sounds like a good idea. For beginners like me this could make finding the needed info much easier and other forums would stay more focused on complicated stuff.

I would love to see a new section for this type of thing. Its one of those, everyone should just know those but all the new people dont know enough to ask type of things. I've been mapping for years and I know there are tons of things that I have never used and never wanted to ask because I just know everyone will just say 'good god, everyone knows that...'

ive been thinking about putting together a post just on all the enties that have to go in a tf2 map for different styles of gameplay together with a series of vmf files with the entities with a base level setup.

I see a number of problems with this.

1) a new mapper isn't going to know what really counts as newbie or intermediate based questions. So we're gearing up for further confusion within the forums.

2) If people are neglecting stickies on common issues they'll probably end up neglecting this too. Especially with point 1, where in people end up posting in the wrong sections because they don't know any better.

I would however propose a FAQ as an alternative to complicating the already growing discussion area's.

I kind of liked this. But the problem with this has been stated. Who's to say whats noob material and what isnt?

Trying out something like this certainly would cause absolutely no harm.
