What I'm working on

I've been fooling around with hammer now for a few weeks off and on and I'm starting on a map that I want to work on to completion (rather then just making it to learn from)

I put together a little slideshow about the play mechanics, check it out and let me know what you think. Questions, comments, feedback etc. Its a bit different then a usual capture point map, but tamer then some of my more off the wall ideas for new map types.

(use the arrows in the top right corner to go back and forth)

I hope this isnt super confusing...

I like the concept, looks like it could be really fun. My only advice would be to mix up the buildings a little bit more if you can and even consider putting two of the points either more out in the open (like a courtyard) or something. Charging up those ramps is going to be really tough for the attacking team. Plus if all 4 buildings look similar it'd make the map harder to navigate.

I was thinking about making each building have a different visual style, for example, one is all wooden and barnyard looking, like Red base in 2fort, one was all high tech with computers and stuff on the walls, one maybe looks like its made out of rock, and some fourth theme for the other.

As for it being hard on attackers, putting one out in the open might be a good idea, but remember, a team has to cap and hold the point for 5 minutes (just an estimate time length), its not like once its capped, its locked in. If one team caps all four points, it would be hard to then hold all four for 5 minutes. They would basically have to split their team into four groups, one for each tower, while the other team could group together and all focus on one.

I havent had a chance to play test it at all except by myself, once I get the mechanics working (all the capture points working like they should) I'll do a bunch of beta testing and see how people play it.

Heh nice slide show. You know I frankly don't know what to think about this map. Certainly sounds interesting, and I always applaud those trying to create something new and different.

I agree with Logo that it would be ideal to have 4 unique points so people can more easily see who holds what. My main concern would be having a sniper's haven with too much distance between the buildings. Certainly snipers should get to have some fun, but limiting long runs between towers might be preferable. Oh and I was thinking, its definetly cliched but perhaps have a sewer or a tunnel running between at least two of the points diagonally.

Heh well frankly I dunno, sounds like it could be a lot of fun. Would love to playtest to see how it turns out.
