My plan for my map is to have a river flowing trough one of the capture points, but when I placed the water down as func_detail it doesn't show up in game.

What should I do to have it appear?

water is always world and uses specific water textures

now if you want to have moving water i.e. surface texture you can so do this instead

make box - no draw all sides, top side apply water - that box will then be the actual water
then make one box, all no draw, 1 unit above the water may even aligned or merged inside in your water box. make this a func_brush - non solid - on the top put on your moving texture and rotate it until the texture is going the way you want.

if you just want water with a current, make water box put pushzone in it

you're done

What is the name of the water if it's not func_detail?
Like others said, don't tie your water solids to anything; simply paint its top face with a water texture while the other 5 faces are painted with "tools/toolsnodraw". Type "water" and available water textures will show up. 2Fort uses "water/water_2fort", for example.

So there's no other thing to it?
No func_detail, nothing?

Nothing else to it. No func_detail or anything else.

If your water is not appearing in-game, make sure the Run VIS step of the compile is turned on and that there are no errors in the compile log.
