Sorry guys, but I am a total n00b at this...

For now, I just want to know how to add a custom sound to any map (Mostly Badwater because I love that map) when the team wins or loses?

I have downloaded Source SDK, and been messing around with Hammer, but I am unable to edit any of the BSP files...

So what am I doing wrong?
How do I edit the map files?
Which files do I need to edit?
How do I add a custom win or lose sound?

On a side note, this is for my maps on my TF2 server. Not locally on my workstation. So I need to know also if there is any thing special so the client connections can download the sounds after I edit the map files.

Thanks,
Ry

You can't edit the BSP files, you need to decompile them.
How do I edit the map files?
As above.
Which files do I need to edit?
If you are changing the sounds, you only really need to update the sound files, and this will not have an effect unless you update them on a server.
How do I add a custom win or lose sound?
Find the sound that plays, then over write it with a new one on the server.

You cannot open a BSP. You should never edit an official map. Use server plugins to play sounds.

When you edit on Hammer you edit .vmf files (valve map files) that can't be playable but you can edit them. When you compile a map, you turn the vmt into a bsp, which is a playable file.

For editing already made maps you have to decompile them into a vmf and then you can open it on Hammer. But I have to tell you decompiling others map, editing them, and recompiling them is "illegal" and you should not do it. Instead you should make the maps by yourself and avoid editing a map that is not yours.

Thanks for the input guys!

So, if I over write the lose sound or the win sound, how do the clients know to download it so it will play when they win or lose? I have tried over writing the lose sound and win sound and it didn't download nor play...

Thanks,
Ry

It doesn't work like that. Replacing a file just does that and it doesn't know it's supposed to do something else with it. You'd need to create RES files or use a server plugin to make everyone download a custom sound and then use the correct sv_pure setting to force them to play the one that matches the server. Even then then it wouldn't work if people have sound download turned off. Plus, this would have to be done using the "proper" name/directory and so it would end up playing for them on any server.
There might be a way to do it without overwriting the default sound using a plugin, but then I'm not sure how you would stop the original from playing at the same time.

Basically, from the map editing view most of us will have here it's either not possible or frowned upon methods. You'd be better off asking at a plugin/modding site.

@supernaturals first post:The only stupid question is the one that isn't asked-(i forget who said that but their right).
Speaking of total n00bs. I don't even have a computer that can run tf2, the computer i using now is so medieval it can't run tfc or cs1.6 on full graphics. it has a GeForce2 64mb graphics card. however I've got a new but its missing its CPU so it worthless til i get one.

Current maps made by anyone: you, me or Valve you can open in hammer, it is stealing of intellectual property to copy anything start form their map to yours. You can't just take intellectual property it's robbery, you must write a e-mail/letter to the owner request use of they intellectual property and if they don't read it or say no you can't. more easily however you can look at how that modelled they wireframe and make your own similar. I'm not sure on the rules of props however. :/
