An extension would be very pleasant. However keep it something small like 2 weeks to not annoy people who are further ahead or just want this contest to be over.

I'd rather not give any additional time to a contest like this even if I'd benefit from the added time on the clock

just let the contest run its course and be done with it once the bell tolls

I am running very very far behind schedule lmao, would absolutely love an extension of some sort. I really wanted to participate since I heard about it but I wasn't able to start until 9/3 because busy. Now it's 11 days away and I'm struggling to find time to cram it in, haven't even finished the a1 yet. But I really want to be part of it because I invented this awesome triple-koth type mode using rd logic.

I know it might be a bit late, but I'd be willing to act as a judge for this contest if any more are needed

In the interest of giving last-minute entrants a bit more time to finish, but not that much more time, I am giving everyone a two week extension. You now have until October 14th - see the original post for the exact time and date.

Update on where things are at right now because I've apparently forgotten to talk about this on the forums:

Maps are all submitted and we are now in the first round of judging, where the judges are trying to quickly cull the map list from 32 maps to 20 (10 symmetrical, 10 asymmetrical). This happens before public voting so that public voters don't have so many maps to play. This should take about two weeks at most.

However, even though the public cannot yet vote, we will still be running public tests of all the finished maps, and I could encourage you all to join them and start forming opinions on maps so that public voting can be done and over with as quickly as possible. I'd like to get into the finalist voting round by mid/late November and be done with the whole contest before Christmas.

Here is your preliminary map pool:

SYMMETRICAL:
  • Axlebox
  • Illinois
  • Waterlog
  • Tomb Town
  • Escalation
  • Dipper
  • Chin
  • Hot Garbage
  • Shithole
  • Cliffside
ASYMMETRICAL:
  • Fountain
  • Coyote
  • Chemplant
  • Red Mesa
  • Tarpit
  • Tumb 2K19
  • Emil New Thing
  • Route 51
If your map isn't in this list, then you are welcome to start updating your map and testing it like normal.

Note that there are only 8 asymmetrical maps - I have eliminated Tortillia and Landslide from the running because, while they were technically in the top 10, they also received remarkably low scores and are best freed up for development instead of keeping them locked in the contest for the next couple of weeks.

I will be following up later tonight with a preliminary voting thread, where the public (you!) get to narrow this map down to just 5 of each kind. Public voting will be open for the next two weeks, to be extended to three if we don't get good turnout.

plr_dipper (my map) seems to make people crash to desktop if the red cart goes back down the first rollback zone, so can it please be removed from the map pool. Don't want to accidentally crash the server again in the middle of a test

I'd rather the map be straight disqualified than go back to a previous version as it feels unfair to change during this stage of judging, and it might get confusing too since a lot of votes have already been placed (although I'm pretty sure they're all no votes anyway lol)

but yeah sorry for the crashes, and sorry for all the post edits you'll probably have to do to take it out of everyone's vote tables! I'll look into it at some point and try to improve the general layout for future tests

Sure. I'm not going to remove it from the contest "officially" in terms of removing it from the voting ballot, but we'll stop running it in tests and you can start updating it again.

Preliminary voting is over! Here are your finalists:

Symmetrical:
Axlebox
Escalation (Stage 2)
Illinois
Shithole
Waterlog

Asymmetrical:
Emil New Thing
Fountain
Route 51
Tarpit
Tumb 2K19

Congratulations to everyone who made it through! For those who didn't, you may start updating your maps again. If you haven't already, check out the voting thread for feedback on your maps.

The full tally of all votes is available here. In image format:

Scores are calculated by averaging Yes / Neutral / No votes as +1 / 0 / -1. They are then remapped to a 0-100 value. Two ballots (TheBluScout, MystycCheez) were not counted as they voted for fewer than half of the maps.

A finalist voting thread will follow shortly. Finalist voting will last for two to three weeks, and then the contest will be over!
