So I am new to mapping and have a few questions about 3D skyboxes:

1. Does my map need to be centred around the origin for the skybox to work?

2. Do i place a skybox texture around my map as well as the miniature skybox?

3. What skybox texture do I use for the 3D skybox?

4. Do skyboxes seal maps?

5. Is there a guide on how to make a simple 3D skybox for new mappers?

1. Yes, if you need it to be perfect if you have a lot of stuff. No, if you don't have that much in there.

2. Yes. Use the bright blue skybox texture under the tools category

3. Same one as the one you use for the one in your map.

4. Yes.

5. Yes: https://tf2maps.net/threads/guide-seamless-3d-skyboxes.24667/ and https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/3D_Skybox just in case

Thank you for your reply. In reference to one, does it matter if all I want is a simple landscape skybox? I don’t want it to align with anything, just make the map immersive.

Depends on how the actual map meets the 3d skybox, and you don't really have to get it exactly at 0, 0, 0 just generally in the center- in my experience anyways
