Here's "Blu HQ" - the blue team's resupply for my new map Space Race.

[screenshot attached]

CONCEPT:

Space Race is an homage to the maps "Spaced Out" and "Space Bowl" from Team Fortress Classic. It combines capture the flag gameplay with a central capture point - the team that has control of this hub gains access to the enemy flagroom.

THE MISSION:

Red has control of a space station, and Blue aims to take it over.

Blue's goal is to make their way from a docked Space Shuttle, through a series of hallways and vents, to the center of the Space Station Hub. They must capture the hub to gain access to the enemy's intel room. Capturing the intel is representative of the Blue Team gaining control codes to the Space Station.

Red's goal is to make their way from the Control Center of a Space Station, to the central hub - where they have to defend against an offensive attack and secure it. Once secured, Red can capture Blue's intel, which is representative of the Red Team commandeering Blue Team's Shuttle.

I'm creating this map while I wait on the official word about "The Hunted" (supposedly in production at Valve.) Also, attached is the design for my Hunted VIP "Guido" and here's the thread where it all got started: http://www.teamfortress2fort.com/forums/t/TheHunted-3490.aspx.

Screens look amazing. I was wondering, however, how you are doing wedding the cp and ctf styles. Have you found a way to display who controls the center point in the HUD or do you only have the CTF hud?

If it was the latter, I assume you could always get around this by placing boards around the map showing who controls the center.

In any case youve sold me on this map, it looks fantastic, the playstyle is original (well for TF2 anyways) and I can't wait to see it in action.

Oh and one more question, since you say its CTF, i assume you actually capture a flag in the level. How does this work? Once you gain access to the flag room and get a flag do you run back to your base? That method works for Blue since they are attempting to steal teh stations codes, but works less well for Red.

Or do you have a teamflag you have to bring to the others cap room? That method might be good as well, especially if you had the carrier slowed somewhat.

Hell I wanna play this map right now! Anyway you could release it as a simple cap point map so we can at least run around and playtest?

DrHaphazard - I'll post some concept sketches later today. I LOVE the concept of making this a "push" map, though. I've been having a hard time justifying the cap points - this would definitely make the map less confusing too.

Great idea.

Snipergen - This is just another type of gameplay using what Valve has already provided in the SDK.

OK :)

Sounds cool though, nice drawings, however, how you want to use that character in the game? o_O

Oh! No, no, no... "Guido" isn't from Space Race.

He's a character for my version of The Hunted - which is an old map from Team Fortress Classic where one team escorts a VIP and the other tries to assassinate him. The Hunted would be a mod - but rumor has it that Valve is already finishing up development on an official version of The Hunted. I believe, in fact, it may very well be the other map they are releasing within the next two months... Badlands and The Hunted.

Space Race is what I'm doing to pass time as I wait to hear what the status is on The Hunted.

Yeah I think using the push model of CTF would add even more novelty to your map. I'm not exactly sure how that would mesh with the storyline exactly, unless you went the easy route saying that you were bringing a bomb to the others base (although the logic behind blowing up a shuttle attached to your orbiting space station isnt exactly watertight!)

On the topic of The Hunted, have you already made a map for that, or have you redone the original hunted level? Given the content of the released TF2 maps it seems likely that any released Hunted map would be very similar to the original map. Would be awesome to have a completely new Hunted map waiting in the wings for when that gamestyle is released.

One map at a time though I suppose, I look forward to it!
