This isn't mind-blowing, but I always assumed these rickety wood board fences were props, when in fact they're brushes with nail props here and there.
(I'm aware that the tall board/barrier has a shorter prop version)

I've done a ton of 'mapgyver'-ing in the past and maybe I'll post move here as I find them, but this is one of my more memorable ones.

Shutter windows, hubcaps, cranks, and spytech door handles along with some brushwork makes a good stove.

These doors on glacier aren't actually props, but brush based. That alone isn't too special, until you realise that the handles are actually those spytech glass door handles which have been rotated to only show half of them.

Also on glacier, we have a train carriage that has been used as a generic oil tank prop.

perhaps not nearly as practical problem solving, but you can put towel racks exactly inside a shelf unit to look like its being used for a bathroom.

not enough rails to keep your mercs at bay? this model fits into itself seamlessly without clipping.

need a bigger workout, brushes over a bench look like workout benches and some brushes make a great spotting rack. and weights.

thin wedges at a 22.5 degree twist make a great industrial fan just add a motor.

displacement to be a a meme. subdivisions can save you some time slaving in blender for that nice button nobody should push.

Neat little detail I noticed on ctf_retreat. Water has run through the grooves in the corrugated metal, leaving rust stains down the cliff face. I never would've thought to use this stain overlay like this.

While a bulk of this roof *is* made using actual roof props (two instances of props_soho/metalroof001 specifically), the roof cap is upside-down 2fort gutter props!

I figured out recently that the way Goldrush got its gold textures to look so especially shiny even in the darkness underneath stage 1's Red spawn, is by having a hidden gold pile underneath the one you see in-game. The pile you see uses the other's cubemap instead of a cubemap of its own.

The next stage's spawnroom doesn't do this because why be consistent; and in my opinion, it looks way worse because of it.

Using these medieval windows in combination with a detail brush with the fakewood texture applied to them allows for semi-convincing closed windows.

someone told me to put this thing in this thread, though imo it isn't that much of a mapgyver
hate how the stock wooden crane props are either too big or too small or the wrong shape for your needs? just use a fuckin wagon wheel, bolts, and some brushes
