Im wanting to place a spawn point entity in my map, so I changed the prop static (which is what entities are by default for me) into a spawn point, and pressed enter and it didn't change. I pressed apply and that didn't work either. I changed the default entity back to a spawn point, but now I cant change to a prop static. What is going on?

What's the exact name of the entity you're typing in? The spawnpoint entity for TF2 is called "info_player_teamspawn".

If your entity's Class Info tab doesn't look like this, then you've successfully changed the entity type to something other than prop_static:

As Spud mentioned above, the correct entity to use for spawnpoints in TF2 is info_player_teamspawn--which looks like a blue and red engie if you've got the ABS pack installed, or a green Freeman if you don't--and not entity_spawn_point, which exactly like a prop_static without a set model. Also make sure you're changing the class in the Class Info tab as shown in the screenshot above, and not in the object creation tab displayed in the bottom right
