Arena mode.... with Intel?

T

The Asylum

So it's like this:

Making an arena map (I can hear Youme hissing already!) based off of Robin Hood's duel with Little John. A side for each team, divided by an instant-kill river in the middle, with a lone log as a bridge between them.

Then where does the CP go? How about, no CP, but Intel instead? That way, instead of the map degenerating into a Sniper-fest for those too scared to risk crossing the bridge, the other team is forced to risk crossing the log, grabbing the Intel from the back of the map, and running back to their side over the log.

Can it be done?

That goes against the base principle of an arena, it's a square everyone can fight in, not a sniper duel without respawns.

You don't need an intel to prevent turtling. The CP is doing that job very well already - it's the only reason they put it in, after all.

If you need to go to such lenghts to convince players not to do sniper battles, then you're doing it wrong anyway. That's a job for the good old buildings, props and natural obstructions.

Everyone has pointed out the sniper problem.

But there are others I can think of.
1- log over insta-kill river. A fine obstacle for an arena map, but to try and get 2 teams to all run towards a suicide on middle of said log?

2-whoever grabs the intel is basically commiting suicide. Everyone is gonna be gunning for them first and foremost. So who's gonna be foolish enough to run out into the middle of a death zone to grab the one thing that ensures they are gonna die.

3- if someone grabs it, falls off the log into the insta-death toxic waste river and dies the match is basically over. No one can grab the intel, so the only way to win IS all kill.

But as Boojum pointed out i think it would always be a sniper war on that set-up.
If all you have to do is turtle and aim at one small area with no worries about someone coming up behind youwould just get teams of a bunch of snipers who never un-scope.

It would be possible to reset the intel after it's fallen to an inaccessible place. I've seen that in maps before, there's at least one working CTF map with a death pit...can't remember the name of it, but it's quite old, it was a bit (too) huge and consided mainly of caves, if that rings anyone's bells.

Regardless, I still agree it wouldn't work well.

You're thinking of aerospace. It's into its 4th beta now, much smaller, and very nice looking. I've yet to actually play it, but it's MUCH smaller and more thought out.

Trust me, I've seen Aerospace. It's nothing like it at all.
