Propper for SFM?

I figured converting brushes into models for some scenes would be easier than making new models from scratch in 3DS Max or Blender, but despite making several attempts, Propper fails to function properly for me. Is it due to it being incompatible with SFM, or me just being a numbskull?

If that is unfeisible, how about an updated or recent tutorial for using Propper for TF2? Because all the video ones on YouTube are at least a few years old and the Valve Developer Community instructions don't work for me.
