I'm a new mapper working on a cave-setting 3CP map, I want to transition from a cave to Spytech, any suggestions / Ideas?

Thanks in advance.

(Area in question is the middle exit for BLU, with just a floor.)

Hello, and welcome to the forums!

Could you please give us a .vmf file so we can directly open it with hammer? Alternatively you can take screenshots of the area you want to work on and someone can look at it easily.

If there is a small flank route then making a vault door from the cave to the spytech area would be cool

Hmm, the general theme progression for a map is Neutral > Facade > Industrial > Spytech, or something similar.

I think you could try Outside (if applicable) > Cave > Used Cave > Spytech.

The "Used cave" section is a large area inside your cave that is an active workplace, maybe it's being mined and there some sheds and walkways built, maybe their building a large tunnel underground, anything that is a legitimate and fitting industry.

You can use this industrial build up to transition to the spytech areas. E.g A build that is just an entrance, a bunker door, a large gate for trucks hanging open, a small cave that runs under the facility. Try to be creative but don't get hung up on trying to find the perfect solution, just think on it a day or two and use your best ideas.

Why do you need the VMF? The best advice would be to point to places in other maps where this is done.

Merging spytech and cave isn't too difficult. This area in the second stage of pl_enclosure does it with a simple doorway.

2fort also sort of merges cave elements with its spytech base, so you might be able to take inspiration from that.

I've made a basic B point, but could still use some ideas for the full-on Spytech area. Thanks for all the replies, BTW <3

Well, I looked at the proposed entrance plan to C and I would suggest having a metallic opened door that acts as a transition from base to cave (not a standard door, a massive industrial one that has an angled frame large enough for vehicles). As for the the theme, I would suggest what you see in bases like 2fort. If you want examples, look at Junction and how it handles massive spytech areas.
