How do other people edit the existing maps.

You see the 2fort map edits, the hightower map edits and some are cool but some are weird.
My question is, how do they even work on all of that despite the map being so jumbled up with lines everywhere.
it's sorta confusing when I look at 2fort in hammer and it's all jumbled up mess.
Is there a way I can filter the things I see in the map?

You can go to visgroups and uncheck whatever you dont want to see.

What you're seeing are the skip + hint brushes which are used to manually optimize visleaves. As Erk said, turn them off when working but don't forget to turn them back on for your final compile.

You can also use the Radius Culling tool to hide everything not in a sphere around your camera, size can be controlled. It can really help in more complex maps when trying to edit things in the 2D views.

Just make you don't leave that on during a compile.
A better method is to fully zoom into the 2D views that you don't need and then spam "1" in the 3D view to decrease render distance. Press "2" to increase it again.
