Bhopping as trolldier

So, i started trying bhopping, to keep the crit on the market garden. I've put the mousewheel on +jump, but i haven't been able to pull it off once. I tried on tr_walkway, on the bots, but it didn't work.

Does anyone know what's wrong? Am i supposed to hold crouch while bhopping? Am i only supposed to scroll just before i hit the ground, because right now, once i've jumped, i start spamming that scroll wheel.

The Market Gardener can only crit while you're in the air from a rocket blast. (be it your own or another's blast) As soon as you hit the ground, you lose it. Repeatably jumping quickly after being in this state won't retain your crit, as you need to be on the ground to jump, thus losing your crit.

As far as I'm aware, no. I would think if that were possible, it'd be a very popular exploit and Valve would have fixed it by now.

Bhopping in TF2 doesn't really offer any advantages like in other games.

(Disclaimer: I don't play around with the market gardener that much, if at all, so I might get this wrong entirely. What I'm about to say is based off my experience with grinding jump maps and some hasty googling. If someone is more versed in this please help clarifying.)

What bhopping is in a rocket jumping context is bouncehopping, not bunnyhopping. (iirc the reasons why they can be made in the first place are the same, but since I really don't touch bunnyhopping that often at all so again, I may be wrong.)

A bouncehop is where you hit jump (jump only, no other inputs until you make the hop) as you touch the "ground" (not the actual ground, like 1 to 6 hu above it). Being airborne in tf2 means not touching the actual floor, so if you were to jump on these psuedo-ground you can still be counted as airborne from the previous explosive jump, because funky source engine quirk. Therefore the crit is maintained.

The thing about bouncehops is that while you can do them after you fall from any height, they can be really inconsistent because of the window of time you have to press jump. There is a list of set heights that is consistent if you fall from them and jump maps have been incorporating them ever since bounces were discovered to be a thing in 2013 but that's about it. It's really about learning the timing to them.

Personally I would recommend not binding mouse wheel to +jump because it's better to learn the timing than to rely on binds, not to mention in recent updates they made it so you can't spam too many commands at once, otherwise you get kicked from servers. Then again, it's personal preferences so just try until you can get it right, it may take a long time but that's really how it goes with most things in jumping.

I'm no expert on the topic, but that's not entirely true.

Note: I've seen moments in recent videos (Soundsmith's, I believe) where this is replicated, so to my knowledge this is still possible.

B-Hopping is still possible (as far as I'm aware), but I usually end up binding both MouseWheelUp and MouseWheelDown to +jump so I can spam it twice as much. That being said, it could be an issue with how well your game is handling, as having a low frame rate gives you less chances to input on the right frame. I'm not sure how many frames this trick is open for, but I'm fairly certain frame rate may be your issue.

afaik bhops have nothing to with framerate, it's more so about pressing jump on the right tick window. While having a better frame rate would help with a lot of things, getting the timing right is more important.

@Toopliss Do i need to crouch when bouncehopping? I've tried soo many times now, and not once did i hear that "woooosh" sound the rocket jumper makes, while i bouncehop. I get that it's hard, but you'd think i'd be able to do it once on luck but nope.

Thanks for replying btw

Since you can't jump while crouching on the ground, I'm going to say no.
