ctf_mystic - Capture the scroll using power ups in this Medieval-styled CTF map!

"Hey you peasant-laddy! Listen, I heard you liked Medieval CTF, so here you go.

Huh? You wanted more gimmicks? Try this one: Every 45 seconds, a lucky laddy who picks up THE GIANT TOME will become a LARGER THAN LIFE for 30 seconds! You think you can handle that?

You want even more gimmicks? Ouch, you're twisting my arm! OK OK, how about players can grab mystic spells like uber, crits, speed boosts and anti-gravity to fight each other?! This is called, "CTF_Mystic", after all!

Now give me back my shovel so I can get back to working on my maps! When I was your age..."

This is a traditional CTF map with Medieval mode enabled, as well as power ups built into the map. These power ups are displayed like the Mannpower power-ups, but they do different things. There are different ones all over the map, most notably the Giant's Tome power up in the middle of the map--This displays a message when the power up has been taken, since it's a real threat!

This is Alpha 1 (the first release), and it's my first map ever in TF2. I hope you all have fun!

Now I have not played the map but this reminds of the whole "2points" thing last month I believe.

It's ADVANCED 2POINTS.

So map update: I'm going to work on the newer version over the weekend, "a2". From what I gathered from the playtest demo, the map was:
  1. Boring,
  2. Buffs were unnecessary / confusing,
  3. It's a straight shot to get to the intel room,
  4. A lot of people were confused about the giant power up, even with the message on screen (likely didn't display for everyone, esp. those with minimal HUD),
  5. A room should be dedicated to the intel room,
  6. People were confused about what the intel looked like,
  7. Way too easy for Scout to run and cap, because Medieval / buffs / straight shot to the intel rooms.
  8. Medieval makes CTF hard to defend.
This feed back is incredible! Thank you so much for all that took the time to playtest this.

So, to remedy this, I am thinking...:
  • Main Idea: I want this to be a brawl, and fun for all classes.
  • To address the feedback, I will change the traditional CTF game mode to a new type: Capture the neutral intel in the middle, and take it back your team's base. When the intel is captured, it will spawn another at mid, giving the other team a chance to get a point.
  • As another test of a power-up system, I will let the player choose which power up they want to spawn with. I'll use the Soldier's banners as the buffs. Exception though: No disciplinary action effect, instead replaced with faster attack speed (as a sort of "psudo-attack/defense buff).
