Six weeks ago, the Summer 2018 72 Hour TF2 Jam drew to a close leaving the community with a staggering amount of new and exciting TF2-related content. Since the clock hit zero, you've not stopped asking us one very important question: Where's my medal?

Three weeks ago, the Summer 2018 72 Hour TF2 Jam medals were distributed, along with the all-new TF2maps Ray of Sunshine for everyone who donated to AbleGamers during (and just after!) the jam. Since they've gone out, you've not stopped asking us another very important question: Where's the Showcase?

Today, we're glad to finally let you know that the Summer 2018 72 Hour TF2 Jam Showcase is here!

The Final Numbers

This year we received 625 entries, slightly lower than last year's total of 742. But never fear, as together we managed to raise a total of $4,409.91 for AbleGamers through both item and monetary donations! That's an incredible number, and I'm incredibly proud of our entire community who came together to make it possible.

Of those 625 entries, 161 were maps, 19 were items or models, and 303 were drawings, SFM renders, or other works of visual art. We also got 12 videos, three entries labeled as music, and one entry labeled as food. Because of the staggering amount of entries, we only have room to showcase 95 (15.2%) of them!

Acknowledgements

Before we begin, some thanks are in order to those who helped make this whole thing possible. Special thanks to @Void for organizing this year's jam, as well as handling medal distribution this time around! Also a shout out to @Idolon for creating and organizing the spreadsheet of entries we use to sort through them. Thanks to @Sexy Robot for modeling the new Ray of Sunshine donor medal, and @fuzzymellow for helping out with the promotional artwork for the Jam. Thanks to @KubeKing as well for making the header at the top of this post! Also a quick shoutout to @Geel for setting us up with a way to accept TF2 items as donations at the last minute. I'd also like to extend special thanks to @Geit for coming back just long enough to fix the site's timer when it started an hour early. Thanks, friends!

Next up is everyone who helped sort though the entries for the showcase: @Berry, @Another Bad Pun, @Diva Dan, @Erk, @Egan, @LoovyTurgz, @Idolon, @Void, @Crash, and @killohurtz! I'd also like to personally thank the rest of staff as well for watching chat while I was streaming. Thanks! And as always, a shout out to @Crash and @Fr0Z3nR for creating the Jam concept in the first place. We wouldn't be enjoying this showcase without you!

I'd also like to thank AbleGamers for partnering with us for our second charity drive! It's been a great success, and we are looking forward for doing more in the future. And finally at the risk of sounding cheesy, I'd like to thank you—yes, you—the one reading this! Without your support and the rest of the community, there'd be no jam. I'm honored to be able to call myself a part of this amazing collection of talented people.

Now that that's out of the way, on with the showcase!

Artwork

zY0WNEO.png

Up first this year is the artwork, starting off with the talented Dimitri Petrenko's Red Team Redemption. For a change of pace, we can check out Live4Fun7369's short comic about Heavy in Not So Good News, and a cute drawing of Spy in ♦Lord_Ruchary♦'s Spy by Ruchary.

vwbEtwo.jpg

Over on the right we've got B-S-C-B's EOTL soldier art, and if you're interested in more portrait shots of the classes, check out Some good Spy art by Atsird and the striking Minimalist Samurai Soldier by Chupin Goloso!

If you've ever wondered what the beach episode of a TF2 anime might look like, check out An Anime Beach Episode but it's TF2 and Full of Memes, one of the largest collaborations we've seen! It was made by Cactie, Christina Wonders, Puppiecup, Monsieur Saboteur, Stealth, Bearded Expense, Demongar, and Totenkopf!

If you want fewer TF2 classes in your artwork, we've got that too! Check out Major Pain's Mr.Scottish Resistance featuring a stickybomb in a top hat, or some art of the living bread from Expiration Date in Bready To Die by SadlyJustAL! If neither of those tickle your fancy, be sure to check out Andy War Hole: Mannanas by Left_4_Pillz, or this incredible KotH_Pacific Paintover by Defcon.

jhyK1Gi.png

Py-Bun returned this year to give us a glimpse of what the Mercs get up to after a long day of smashing robots with After Hours (seen above!), and even documented their process with a really cool include a neat making-of time-lapse!

For all you Heavy mains out there, we've got some Heavy pixel art by ZumoDePapaya, Aapelikaeki's Midnight Mapping, and a bizarre look at heavy and medic in a retirement home in kjorque's Early Morning Push.

aglynEi.png

We also got a sizable chunk of artwork centered around Pyro this time around, including ☆ Summertime Pyro(s) ☆ by Fletcho as seen on the left. For more art of the masked maniac, check out Pool Party Pyro Art by Nanito or FREE Loose Cannon's Pyro Loadout! If you still want even more Pyro artwork, check out On Fire by deadsev!

If you're looking for something medic-related instead, look no further than ☭MASTERPIECE☭'s drawing of a Musical Medic or ColaCarnage2's drawing of Medic getting A little revenge on Spy!

We've still got more artwork before we move on to the next section though! Knobsack™ entered with a drawing of Solider in metal fortress, and Summer and Jam by Spoon Egg, DemoN K!ng, DrSquishy, Jeleu, and Zefraxus features all nine classes having some fun in the sun! Also of note is Luther's LEGO Saxton Hale VS Scout render! Very cool!

And let's not forget the incredible Gargoyles & Gravel: Dragonslayer - III'rd Edition (seen below) by the talented Vipes!

Items, Models, and Warpaints

hVb5oEB.jpg
Let's make the jump to 3D and talk about all the items, models, and warpaints that were submitted, starting with RIKUSYO's Pyro melee, Coal of Dirty, pictured above! Another notable melee entry was TF2maps' very own Diva Dan with the Whipslasher Demoman Sword.

1OxVncc.png

New this jam are Warpaints, and we've got a few to show you! First is the spook-tastic Witch brew by Sir Limesalot. If you'd like your warpaints more summer-themed, check out the Sangria Splashed War Paint by PixelRBV, Gun in the Sun by Dan Greene, or the 72 Hour Summer Jam War Paint by OrangeBandito!

We've also got some map props for you, like the Jimi Jam Cereal Set by The Siphon (shown on the right), and the Small Pirate prop pack by ethosaur!

If you'd like your items to be wearable we've got you covered, starting with Strno8's Flame Kindler Pyro backpack. If you're more musically inclined, jam out with the Walkmann by Sinful Creature!

Want hats? We've got those too! Beat the heat with the Summer Survival Kit by x_biker33, or duck and cover with The Crack Pot by Vapour-shark.

Source Filmmaker

4fRWW4y.png

Up first for our Source Filmmaker section is Medic's Сlosed Special Screening by the talented RexyKov, pictured above! If you'd like a more classic team lineup, be sure to also check out hollo007's Ready to Fight, or the collection of three mini-lineups in Myahster's [SFM Sessions] - Offense/Defense/Support.

KqZruUH.png

If you're in a summery mood, head on down to Teleportato's Windshore Docks (Pictured left), or maybe kick back and enjoy a Picnic with Virtsetti. Shoot some hoops with Scout and Pyro in Crimson Loomis's Scout v Pyro: 1 on 1, or maybe head inside to beat the heat while you play some Super Engio Sunshine with Tim.

If instead you are up for an adventure, become a Cave Explorer with Coolchou Zhao, or maybe do some Infiltration with GalaxyPhantomUV. Reach for the stars with some Rocket Science by PootisGodAnimations, just be sure to watch out for The Graylien Invasion with FUTURE10S. After that, relax under the Night sky with TitaniumXXL. Whatever you do, make sure you and BlaBla send us a Greeting From a Far Land!

JuxZKTC.png

If you're in the mood for something more animated, check out The Scout: Cocky lil' FREAKS! by Ronald_D_D (above). If scout isn't your favorite, hit the road with the famous 2Fort wooden cow cutout in out Moo-dy Tuesdays by Cheezy! If you're looking for even more comedy there's also The Woes of Auto-Balance by Mediic, and A Sonnet for Miss Pauling by AnneSQF, The Biological Machine, and Ixy. And finally to round out our animations section we've got a great .gif in the form of Light On, Lights Off by Mr. Light.

Believe it or not, we're not out of wonderful SFM pictures to showcase yet! To your right you'll see the amazing Healer by dave. We've also got Unintentional Kill by friedburrito to show off as well, take a look!

And finally, what kind of showcase is complete without some artwork involving Saxton Hale? The Scurvy Orange took it upon themselves to provide us with some Saxon-y goodness with Bosses, and so did Papyesh with their piece, Saxton and his bat.

Videos and Sounds

Opening our audio-visual section of the showcase is glitch, an incredible collaboration between weatherspoon and tylenol_addict, as seen above! Continuing with TF2 edits, we've also got a tf2 frag movie by SourceNick, and Obey by vosiloN.

In the realm of videos that are not TF2 edits, we've got Goo's enigmatic, glowing-ball-filled fever dream jam! and casperr's informative and interesting Summer Item Trivia!

jKmAHQV.png

This year we had not just one, but two full EP's made in 72 hours featuring music made up of or inspired by sounds found in Team Fortress 2! What's even more impressive is that both have album artwork as well! Above is the album art for Mikroscopic's 4-track EP ELECTRO SOUNDS, as well as KubeKing's 6-track EP Luminosity, featuring special guest ABP. Both are fantastic, give 'em a listen when you can!

If those 11 tracks weren't enough, here's another: Summertime Soundtrack by MagnusG, an original song in the style of TF2's iconic soundtrack.

We've got one more bit of audio to showcase, 【EmNudge】's Quake/Battle Royale Announcer Lines, ready for your next map! Speaking of which...

Maps and Map Accessories

It's time to talk about maps and map-related entries! First up, grab your bat, because we're heading to the beach for an all-out scout only brawl with Flipy's incredible Sandball (pictured above), a unique take on Player Destruction complete with helicopters for spawn rooms! If you'd rather play catch somewhere a bit cooler, head over to FrostHoneyJuice's Snowylake to play some Passtime.

fG07mi1.png

Up next on our tour is the lovely Outflow by Yrr, pictured left. It's a 3-point Steel-style CP map set in an seaside facility. If you want your 3CP more linear, be sure to check out 14bit's unique Cable, an A/D-KotH hybrid with moving cable cars! Alternatively, if you'd like your 3CP more like Powerhouse, check out HQDefault's Woodgrant.

Also be sure to check out Bakscratch's Arena Battleroyal, a Mannpower/Arena mashup complete with grappling hooks and the custom announcer showcased earlier!

If you're into MvM, we've got some missions for you! Be sure to check out HolySnickerPuffs's Staten Slaughter mission for Mannhatten, or Startacker's MvM campaign Gear Jamming, featuring robots based on various TF2maps community members!

2TPM3vd.jpg

If you just want to look at a map without having to deal with other players, we've got some detail maps this time around, too! To the right we've got _theunknown's old-school detailing in their First CP Detail. If you'd like something a bit different in the detail department, check out Void's Just A Bedroom And Nothing Else, which is just a bedroom and nothing else, we promise.

If you're interested in doing some detailing yourself, maybe take a look at the stylish particles in the mega_particlepack72 by megastorm, the useful European Signs Decal Pack by Pie_Savvy, or even the utilitarian Popcorn Ceiling and Drywall textures by Zungry (DarkVirus135)! And if it's a night map you've got a hankering to detail, maybe consider using Nixon's Sky Dipper skybox, or adding some flare with Exactols's Fireflies particles!

We've got a few more maps we'd like to mention as well. Head to the front lines with Xelily's KotH map, Rute, or get ready for some Payload Racing action in zpqrei's Pusher. And if you'd like to actually like to do some racing, be sure to check out Racecliffs by BigBang1112, our only bumpercart map this year!

Everything Else

G36HVNw.png

Not everything fits nicely into broad categories, so here's all the other cool stuff we haven't talked about yet! Up first is Intruder Alert (pictured above), a really neat puzzle/stealth game centered around stealing the intelligence created by Synglaas. If you want a more action-oriented game, don't miss Corton's top-down shooter, Team Fortress 2: Survive!

5bgBR9x.png

If you use .demo files for recording and viewing matches of TF2 a lot, then pazer's DemoShellInfo Windows shell extension might be for you! It allows you to view information about demo files directly in Windows explorer, including length of the demo and what map it takes place in!

If you're looking for IRL versions of TF2 weapons, on the left you'll see Shmashing Zilla's Kukri Prop Submission, the first of our physical objects for this year's showcase. In addition, as a follow up to last year's working beep boy, Yotts once again amazed us by Building an IRL Crusader's Crossbow, with moderate success!

If you want some less-threatening IRL TF2 things, check out the Relaxing scout and pyro by Srg.HATE, or the adorable Spy-Crab Sculpture by Bloonik. And finally, if reading this has made you hungry, check out our only food item submitted this year, Balloonicorn Marshmallows by Ixy!

What's next?

Hungry for more? Be sure to check out all 625 entries by heading on over to the 72hr Jam Entries download category! We had so much great stuff that we just couldn't fit into the showcase, so what are you waiting for? Dive in!

Everyone who participated should already have their Participant Medals in TF2, and all donors to the AbleGamers charity drive should have their donator medals as well. If you don't have one or both and believe this is a mistake, feel free to contact Void with a PM!

It's always exciting to see what we can do together as a community, and all of us here at TF2maps.net are eagerly looking forward to whatever is next in store! Thank you everyone, be sure to keep a lookout for the next Jam!

And before you go, we've got one last item we'd like to showcase: Smiley the Smile's magnum opus, "Team Fortress 2." See you all next Jam!

It's true of every jam and shouldn't have to be said again but this is just incredible. Wonderful effort from everyone who participated, organized / ran the event, and helped make this a reality. Seriously, events like this make this community what it is today and is why I map for TF2 more so than any other game. Congratulations to absolutely everyone involved and keep it up, you've earned it.

Thanks for mentioning me! I honestly didn't expect that. This makes we want to work on Staten Slaughter some more, so I'll get on that ASAP!

Woah, my work got recognized! I never though that this would actually happen. Other than that, this Jam was so much fun and it was pretty successful in my very honest opinion. I hope to see another Jam this winter while also having more people as well.

Congratulations to the rest of you guys who got showcased! You guys did your absolute best!

Proud to have joined the jam!

Though I'm just wondering if the badges have been sent out yet for contributing (not donating, though I got that badge)?
