someone makes a base map, a simple gamemode, undetailed. it would detailed monthly in diff. styles depending on month. Jan: alpine Feb: desert ETC. the reward would be small, something like 1 ref a month or a similar value, just so it isn't reward orientated. this would be a detail contest.

I kind of like this idea, but instead of having it be on a monthly basis, have it to where all participants are given a base map (no detail, all dev textures) and each contestant will detail it however they want; no setting given or the like whatsoever.

Im not sure how all this relates to not being monthly. the theme idea is mostly to prevent staleness if it was monthly.

What about a contest where maps must be based off of recognizable real life locations? For instance, imagine fighting on the Statue of Liberty, or inside Big Ben.

Maybe a collaboration where people from the same area could work together as well, like California Team, or even Orange County Team.
What if people don't live in a certain place, bu lived there before, for a while. might broaden the spectrum?

I guess teams can form as representation rather than exact location. You could be living in Minnesota but you can choose to represent the Arizona team or something equivalent.

I'd totally be down for a "World Tour Contest" type of thing, where you could pick a location for mapping sounds radical.

This idea sounds really cool, but it looks impossible to set up with the time given. If you take into account the validation of the idea, the time to make the announcment, the time for the exprienced people to roll in and to start mapping, the redistribution, and the detailing and the stitching back together, it can't be done in 4 weeks in my opinion.

However I have to admit that the idea sounds cool, and that an april fools little contest would be great.

Here's an Idea: an Exquisite Corpse-style Contest. Everyone who wants to join is divided into groups with ~10 mappers each. The first mapper in the chain maps the first area of a map, then sends it to the next mapper. The second mapper adds to this, then cuts out their section and places it in a new file. This is then sent to the next mapper, and the cycle continues until the layout of the map is done. Then, the remaining mappers have each block divided between them to detail.

The first mapper in the chain can decided the gamemode, but everything beyond that is decided by the following mappers.

Here's a chart in case I explained this badly.

Any additional nitty-gritty details can be sorted out by whoever wants to run this beast, but that's the main if it. I'd love some feedback if anyone wants to give it.

Why not a Special Delivery contest with unique theme (Japanese/Maritime City/Spytech/..) ?
Half of Doomsday is useless, it could be interesting to make the Australium case pickup fun !
