Teufort Grand Prix - Detail Practice meets Kart Racing

I've had an idea for a long while of a full Grand Prix game inside one map, and by that I mean 4 different tracks all played after the other. For example, the Grand Prix from Mario Kart (Mushroom Cup, Star Cup, etc.).

As of right now, there is only 1 track: Badlands Circuit.
It is a figure-8 track that features 2 pits and a "shortcut." The shortcut is just a route to get an 8 second boost instead of the normal 3.
When I decided to make this map I needed to solve some problems associated with a kart race map. First of all, people find them boring. The solution? Make the track as small as possible. Of the other kart race maps I've see, they're all very drawn out and nothing really happens. Thus, if the track is much smaller, then it should be more interesting.

I am aware of the double-shot bug that results from testing a kart map, but there's really nothing I can do about it other than wait to test the map when an imp is ending.

I used Idolon's Aether prefab for now, but I plan to majorly modify it in order to accommodate more than one track (so for now, 1st team to 40 laps wins).
Also I used Washipato's Engie Counter prefab for the lap counter.

I didn't make a changelog, but the major change is an overhaul of the lighting to suit Badlands (instead of Upward style lighting), and of course I can't forget to mention the 2 new tracks. Read about their info and see pictures on the main page.

With 3 tracks, I think the map is worth to play in an imp now.

  • Changed Shortcut exit so that it's easier to get out of
  • Added alarm to shortcut door
  • Other misc detail changes

Added a new pit stop/garage area that serves as an intermission area. It's so that when a map change happens, you won't get the double shooting bug. The intermission lasts 1 minute and it is between each track and at the end. It's also a safe place to rtv.

*Changelog*

Badlands Circuit:
  • improved clipping (bridge is still clipped off)

Dry Dry Dustbowl:
  • slightly more detail
  • slightly increased minecarts pushback

Merasmus' Mansion:
  • Removed HHH
  • Added visual indicator to the doors
  • Made doors slower and added delay before they close
  • Adjusted boost pad placement
  • increased damage of lightning

I'm thinking about working on rough designs for tracks (keeping to the general feel of Bigfoot's tracks). If you have any ideas you want to throw my way, I'll try and work on them. If you can't already tell though, I'm in love with this map, Bigfoot, and I can tell this can become the next Saxton Hale mode. (Not even joking, I hope servers run this one day.)

This is probably long overdue, but could you change the prefix of the map to tfkart_ in line with other kart maps? Thank you ever so much.

I'm being serious, though. I'm a server moderator and all the other Kart maps on the server use the prefix tfkart_. The only thing holding me back from adding this map is the name. If you are not going to rename the map in a quick update, am I able to? Will renaming the map break any of the materials packed within it?

Renaming a map is never a good idea; it can break things. The map has to be recompiled, if the author wants to give it a different name.

Is there a particular reason why the name needs to start with tfkart_? Other than for aesthetic purposes.

The server is not just a kart server, it covers a variety of gamemodes and each prefix is executed differently. The kart logic is only executed when the prefix is tfkart_, and creating an extra condition for teufort_ will prove not only to be time-wasting but also problematic, since if any change are made to the base code, they must also be transferred to the extra condition.

But this map doesn't need any custom kart gamemode plugins, it will function without it on any server.
It handles the karts, laps and rounds by itself, there really is no need for a name change.

Team Fortress 2 karts are actually quite broken as I've discovered. If there's no safety measures in place by the server, it is possible for people to no longer spawn in karts for the entire rest of their play session.
