Question about arches

After editing an arch brush with the vertex tool to make the edges meet with the other brushes I got invalid solids. It always seemed to be same symmetrical two:

These two invalid solids then stretched themselves (idk where they were going tbh)
After cutting the stretched bits off, I got no more errors.

1) What was I doing wrong with the vertex tool to cause the stretched invalid solids?
2) Was I correctly editing arches?

Invalid solids are created when a face of a solid isn't a flat plane. This is usually fairly easy to fix by using the cut tool to split the solid into multiple solids all with flat faces. I have no idea what's causing the stretching, but other than that everything should be fine once you cut the invalids. Some people prefer to make arches from hand because of this

Yeah. It kept prompting me to merge vertices but last time I did that the map wouldn't even compile and run.
