changing water colour during a game?

the payload map i'm working on - the last part features a water area in it, and i was hoping that on detonation i could make the water maybe take on a slightly greener colour (to simulate contamination/poison/toxic/etc), but since water isn't an entity normally, but rather is a brush face, i'm stumped how to do it.

(since i don't see myself making a custom physx explosion, i'm leaning towards a finish that won't be a lagfest)

maybe create a invisible brush, and make the existing one unvis, the other one vis.

I'm pretty sure you can change a func_brush color with the color input... but not sure if a water still looks good if its a func_brush...

Just a transparent green texture slightly below the water surface, this will make it look a bit green from above (inside the water it wont look green though)

i think that'd be perfect, since the water will have a kill-zone in it at the end (toxic water is bad for your health after all ;) )

i was thinking of using a cone shape brush, and having it rise upwards from the under the bottom of the water - to give the appearance of it spreading from a central source.
