I'm working on a computer that doesn't have enough space to download all of TF2 is there anyway I can copy out Hammer from TF2 (I have another computer which does have TF2 on it) or can I use the SDK or something similar to it?

That doesn't really help, because the whole thing in that response would still be 10-15gb as suggested, which is too much. Could the old Hammer setup from preSteamPipe or the SDK tool be used? They are much smaller.

Hammer versions from other games can be used, but you may need to copy your work to TF2 hammer before compiling and publishing a map. I would advise against any versions that were released after TF2 though.

You need the assets from tf2 to map with tf2 assets, those are what make up most of the download.

In theory, you could make a "TF2 Lite" with only the most common/useful textures and models. It could definitely be useful if your away from your main computer but need to map.

Step one, drop all those hl2_sound_vo_english_* files, that saves a good 600 MB right there. They are completely unused.

I did some research into this. This early build of TF2 is much lighter than the newer versions of the game. All you need to run it is Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer (under the "Tools" category in Steam). The only downside I can think of is that since it's such an early build, it only has a few gamemodes.

Head's up, it's gonna need a lot of fiddling to get it working. You need to set up the Hammer in the Source SDK Base to work with the mod (this guide is for TF2 Classic, but it works with this too), but in order to that you need the FGD, which isn't included in the download and you'll have to grab from somewhere else (this one seems to work for me).

The ABS Mapping pack, from what I've tried, doesn't work with this. If you were planning on using it, I'm sorry.

I'm familiar with the FGD, but thanks for the link. Yeah, I knew that it wasn't going to work, which is always really disapointing to me, I might be able to extract out to a full version and the manually copy over the files from where they got extracted to.

So far so good! I have gotten the old tf2 builds to work and have set it up with Hammer. I haven't tried to build anything yet though.

It works! Thank you so much! Sadly until I install the ABS Mapping pack any work would be painstakingly hard. I'll see if I can get a copy of the files and then I'll be golden.

Well you can use it without the game because it's a lonely program
but in the end u still need the TF2 files to make a map that works in this game

If you can't install execs how are you getting getting access to Steam? You need it to get this to work.
