Is it Wrong to Say I like Things Symmetrical? (Is It Bad design?)

I'm Currently making a map, some KOTH styled map for Class Practice for me and my Brother, (Us Being Two feet apart with no Server map like that of casual to practice on. Idk, I'm just making a map out of Pure inspiration to do so with practical Casual TF Map Functionality.) But I've Noted from myself that I hold a strong preference to Symmetry, regardless of the designs Functional needs. Now the map I'm Currently Molding still has that sort of Source 1.6 Blockiness Unfortunately, But What really Concerns me is the implementation of Symmetry and What you people feel about it. Especially in terms of Good Map design. Personally I can't stand Indifference and prefer to have my lines straight and mirrored, but I want to hear what you think?

As far as I can tell from that screenshot, your map appears to be symmetrical on two axes (not including the spawns). Your map doesn't really seem like it's for a standard player count so I can't really say much with regards to your map, but in my experience having a map mirrored like that makes it get really repetitive really quickly. Some things to consider would be how having it mirrored like that would effect the flow of the map (blocking sightlines between areas would be a pain), and how it might get confusing due to a lack of "landmarks" and just general repetitiveness.

Right. Now as "Tight" as it looks falls into my short sight for scaling as it is massive for the players, but aside from that, Yes I can see why I would need to make it more unique for both sides of the team, however one wouldn't want to make a visual mess for a map with pieces practically haphazardly placed around If I'm not misinformed. It would appear in examples such as the classic CTF map we've all seen, we've all played before in 2Fort that Symmetry can Be done, but I'm trying to figure out the spectrum to get to that and not making such a landmark-less Repetitive Eye sore as it would appear to be as of current.

I also Want to reshape this "Pillar":

Something to resemble what I had originally intended to model. If you've ever see the Back of a Store, (You've might have possibly drove by one in the parking lot of a mall or what have you,) That weird Blackish Overpass you'll see as the back entrance to a shipping department for a store's loading dock. I don't know the official name for it. But as A guy who's been in the city a lot, I've seen such weird black support structures as relatively old fashioned and perfect for a detail in My map. I just need to somehow put both the right shape and texture for it, (As well get a hold of some more closely detailed Reference pictures if I can only know what the name of those things are.) I'm also trying to Give a feel about making it more Open to the outside, and might eventually remove the walls on the sides of the Capture point for a more Straight through road or something. I actually got a bit of an old flashback to Half Life 2, but I don't wish to put a subway into this... Yet. I want to establish a Garage, but the more I think about this, the more I want to just recreate that one part in the Half Life 2 Beginning as KOTH level.

I feel though, that such temptations may just end up looking Lazy in eyes of the Players, and "Copyright infringing" somehow on design... It just Feels lazy is all I'm saying... But tempting.

But To be Honest I hate Train Levels. I'll experiment.
