sentrygun here. I've been playing TF2 for a while (about January), and tried taking a crack at Hammer a couple of months ago, wondering what mapping felt like. Everything felt foreign and I gave up pretty quick, but I figure with help from other mappers Hammer shouldn't be too hard to get used to, so I'm taking another go at this.

I also plan to take a crack at L4D mapping, but learning Hammer comes first (obviously).

I can only hope this community is helpful in my map making effort and that I can manage to stick to mapping long enough to learn it and get pulled into it.

Good to have you with us, sentrygun! This is indeed the best community out there for learning how to map in hammer (specifically for TF2.) Everyone here strives to ensure that everyone else is doing the best they can. Sometimes that means gobs of compliments, other times it means gobs of constructive criticism. Take whatever feedback you get to heart and have fun with your mapping exploits!

Oh, and definitely take a look at the link in Youme's sig. That'll take you to a whole crapload of information you do not want to be without.
