Anyone here in the path of Hurricane Irma?

I'm just outside the mandatory evacuation zone and in a four story building. I'm pretty sure I'll be fine, I'm just wondering if anyone else on the site is going to be affected. If so, I wish you the best.

The hurricane changed path to come over my house and my family is now driving into the Carolinas/Georgia to find a pet-friendly hotel or some kind of shelter. I hope everything ends up okay for you in that building! I wasn't near an evacuation zone but we were still very scared of the change of direction.

I hope everything works out for you to Diva Dan. Gotta be careful. I heard that from Naples to Orlando most if not all of the gas stations are empty. Despite that, I just heard from a friend that the roads are surprisingly clear. Still, that's just on the way to Orlando. I hope you find that hotel.

I'm in Georgia. Not looking forward to Monday, when it gets here; hopefully Irma is already weakening into a tropical depression by then... Flooding isn't going to be an issue here either way (3rd floor apt AND on a hill, so if I'm flooded, humanity overall is screwed, haha).

I am worried about my windows getting blown out though... and this thing has been churning out tornadoes in Florida tonight. Pretty much resigning myself to lose power from Monday until ??? here due to wind damage.

I hear ya. My house is just outside the current storm surge path, but it's currently in the middle of the tornado quadrant. I'm away from it now, though needless to say, I'm concerned.

Now that Irma's direction has shifted north west, it's projected to cross over central Alabama, which is where I'm currently at. Hopefully it will be weakened by the time it reaches me, but I'm expecting tornadoes, as we had some with Harvey last week (and that storm wasn't nearly as close as this one will be.)

The path has veered toward the west a lot more than originally predicted, and overnight it's been downgraded to a tropical storm. That's good news. Of course, the storm is still twice the size of a state, so even "not directly in the path" doesn't mean a whole lot as far as winds & tornadoes go, so... still expecting the power to go out sometime today.

Wind is already pretty strong here, I can hear sirens semi-regularly. Luckily my porch is shielded from the wind direction, so I don't think I have to worry about losing the sliding doors, but when it gets worse later in the afternoon, I'll still power down, get away from the windows, and go play with Legos or something.

It's been very exciting to watch this storm in almost real time, with videos and predictions and everything. Hopefully all this attention means very few casualities.

Good luck my dude, I've just bunkered up in a hotel in South Carolina with 4 cats that all hate eachother. Lookin to ride it out until west Florida is safer

Yeah, but see... now you're in South Carolina. "Avoid death & destruction" or "go to SC." Tough choice. :p
