Been on youtube less than a day and its got 100k views already.

Needless to say this is the most ambitious and probably going to be the best mod ever for a very long time.

bring on 2009!

Yeah, saw this on another forum. I'm looking forward to 2009. Also, that last scene where you exit the tunnel and see the jets fly over? Yeah, that looks good.

If you go to their website you can read a bunch of their dev blogs, where they share some really interesting backend stuff like mapping and even coding those little cockroaches. I think many people in this community will appreciate the quality work they've done on this mod over the years. All of those realistic desert rocks you see as the jets fly by are actually the result of a technology they seem to have developed themselves called Procedural Terrain Displacement. Very cool stuff, hopefully they explain a bit more about it sometime.

All in all, VERY stoked about this, Half-Life is still my #1 shooter of all time (superior to HL2).

Ok so basically I'll be able to play Half-Life (wich I've never played), just with full badass source magic for free?

as long as you already own any source game: yes
Originally they said you'd have to own CS:S since they used some assets from it, but they've got rid of all of them so now you dont have to own any specific game

This mod is the sole reason I bother mapping, I saw some screenshots a few years back and was instantly captured.

I finally hopped online about half an hour ago and saw this. I can barely get the black mesa website to load. They must be getting some crazy traffic today.

I can't help but echo what Youme said. The work the Black Mesa mappers have been doing is one of the notable reasons I'm interested in mapping today. They do incredible work. Work that rivals (or perhaps even surpasses) the work that Valve themselves do. Combine those amazing results with my passion for TF2 and I can't help but throw my hat into the ring and see what I can come up with.
