What type of map to create as beginner?

I am a bit of a beginner to mapping, and I want to know what gamemode I should make a map in. I know how to create maps and I have experience with the hammer editor, but I don't know what type of map I should make. Any suggestions? I am entering the 72 hour map competition

Definitely KOTH. You only have to design half a map, plus it's relatively simple (especially if you use the Viaduct formula, check out UEAKCrash's tutorials for more info), and it's also a pretty popular gamemode. Additionally, since the gamemode revolves around a single point, designing the layout and tweaking gameplay is relatively easy compared to other modes.

That is what I was thinking of doing, and I could even use it as the mid point for a future 5cp map if I really wanted too.
