Your thoughts please, do you think you'll finish on time or will take longer.
Or would you be happy to submit a beta and continue working after the deadline?

I don't think I will finish it at time, I think I would need more than 3 extra months because I don't really have time for mapping right now, so I don't really care if you extend it or not, I won't finish it at time

Hm, i'm not sure.

I'm trying to flesh out the last 2/3 of the map and it still hasn't been tested. I'll probably only get a beta out. I expected to be able to Blitz my map over the x-mas holidays but i've just been given 2 new projects at once and an essay deadline for Jan 6th. /cry

Perhaps get people to release a beta for new years for testing, and then give an extra month for detailing? Beta release confirms your entry into the competition? *shrug*

I'm not happy to extend the deadline, I really need to be motivated to finish stovepipe so I can move on to other projects, but I don't think there's any way I can perfect it by Jan. 1st. And I don't want to submit a beta, I want a RC as my submission.

30 days would be adequate. The only reason I won't make the deadline is because of finals, etc. Winter break rolls around and I'd have plenty of time to finish it up. If we extend it more than a month, the exigency of mapping might wear thin for some, so please don't extend it more than is needed.

On the one hand, this information has been available for months. On the other hand, I get the sense that people here tend to forget about things unless there are continuous reminders. Perhaps 30 days, w/ an effort on my part to post a reminder every 2 weeks.

I'm happy to submit a map for the deadline, but it'd just be a beta, and i would continue detailing it after.

Just a clarification of my previous sketchy post

I'm not even in the contest, so yo may dismiss my comment at your leisure, but you gave everyone three months, so thats when the contest should end. Time limits are part of these contests... and this is already the longest contest we have ever done. The quicker you end it the quicker we can see something new.

I'm still learning optimization with hints and occulators, so alpha 01 might be too huge fps wise. Otherwise, 80% of the map is finished. A few areas need details still, like a few spawns, there is no skybox, the pl_cart hasn't got a track programming wise finished, and there is no ending explosion. I have to finish 5 spawn rooms still and work on the trigger relays so that doors open and close right when they need to be.

So no, not close to being done. This would be the first map I am officially releasing, so I'm not as fast as some of the other mappers around here. It is also the fact I work 40+ a week that I can't get much time to finish it. I'm so close though. So yes, an extension would help here, but I probably won't win either way.

I'm a bit torn. It would be nice to have extra time, particuarlly be I'll loose a portion of my winter break to vacationing. However, I feel that it might be better to keep the date, just allow betas to be entered. Map must be detailed/mostly balanced, though not necessarily optimized.

Yea, it just doesn't seem right entering an unfinished version into a contest.

and mort, you shouldn't need occluders in a multiplayer map.

There are some in goldrush, but yes you're right to a large extent occluders shouldn't be in multiplayer if I've got my head around them properly that is....

I don't want to extend the contest for the reason dox has given, its already a long contest and a deadline is a deadline after all.
I do however think deadlines should always be just a little bit flexable and from looking at the current entries I do think that there will be a lot still unfinished by jan 01.
before making this thread I had decided the contest would not end up running past feb 01, the question is really how far though january we should take it, I think perhaps and extra two or three weeks should do it.

Hmm, thanks. (That saves a step then). As I said, I'm learning optimization as per the mention examples.

Heya!

So I've been designing my very first payload map and I thought that it might be fun to submit it to the contest. Has the deadline been extended?\\

EDIT::: Found the answer!!! holy cow must get back to mapping!!!
