So, I am making a map as most of us here do, I compile the map to test it out in game, The compile is successful and hammer opens TF2 and the map, but then Hammer crashes, So even after a successful compile, hammer crashes, it never use to do this, and its really annoying having to restart hammer after i test my map. Hopefully i explained this well. Any help is much appreciated. ^_^

Perhaps you just don't have enough RAM to run both simultanously? In which case, just close hammer before starting TF2. It's not like it takes ages to boot up again

I once asked here whether it was common for Hammer to crash after saving/compiling a map, and it turned out to be so.

So you're going to disagree with a perfectly valid suggestion just to give an anecdote with no evidence?

Can you give us any information about the crash? Do you get an error message?

You may wish to try compiling using CompilePalX. It won't freeze Hammer while you compile, so it may prevent it from crashing.

I have enough RAM and my PC isn't a potato to cause Hammer to crash after every Save or Compile. I can assure you I never had such problems when I was still mapping for Counter-Strike: Source.

So what rights do you have to say it never happens with low amounts of RAM?

I didn't say so, I only disliked the comment as it went directly to saying OP doesn't have enough RAM without asking first.

Well, the word "perhaps" was present, so I don't see that as a valid reason to disagree with a comment (and it's not dislike).

hammer is a buggy mess that works yet fails to do so at the same time. though that could be said about Unreal editor and Unity editor too... so it really doesn't matter. Hammer's issue is that to effectively run without crashing, good ram and minimizing render space will help.

My PC has 2gb of ram, no graphics card and the first processor to ever run 64bit windows, and it only crashes due to compiling when i interfere with the compile(by clicking the window) when compiling through hammer
