Custom gamemode: Base control (single stage)

Hello everyone! i have made a new gamemode that i would like to share:
Base control

Base control works like CP + koth
each team has 1 control point
when lets say red caps the blue CP a red timer starts for 3 minutes, blue can stop this by first capping there point and then capping reds. then their timer starts

Feel free to make your own map based around this game mode!

A 3 stage version will be released soon, updates and patches are soon to come also, so stay tuned!

I have provided resources to develop a map using this game mode, fist a test map and a VMF file.


I hope to see this game mode used in the future! if you have any suggestions leave them down below

If you can provide exact details on how he copied your work, I would consider holding my tongue before i accuse someone of theft. It's entirely possible you two had similar ideas, and executed them in a similar manner at the same time.

This really isn't relevant to his point, should probably keep it between the two gamemodes.

Hhmm I think I will keep an eye out for your updates. I wanted to start a new map this summer and this might be what I'm looking for when that time comes. ;)

If each team has 1 control point, in total, that is two control points...
each team has 1 control point
If one team has both control points captured, their timer starts going down, but if the other team manages to recapture both points, their teams timer starts counting down...

Now, let me describe 2koth...

2 control points, neither owned by any team (which may be the single difference, but thats only two changes in the entity, which are easily done), and if one team captures both, their timer starts going down... but until the other team captures the points back, it still goes down... when the other team has successfully captured both points, their own timer starts going down...

So... If you wanted proof that this was almost blatant copying, then here is one last nail: In order to make this, you could have downloaded my 2koth, gone in and went into the capture area, and changed what team owned it on start, and you have this... EVERYTHING ELSE is exactly the same... If that it isn't blatant copying, I don't know what is...

I can willfully accuse you of copying me circa 2011.
And yes, it seems that you did do this in 2011, but there isn't a download on tf2maps, and I couldn't find a download anywhere on the page... This is mostly me trying to defend the download on tf2maps...

Jeez, never heard so many kids argue over "Stop copying me!" lol.

Even if this was a dead on copy, there really isn't much anyone can do but cry as per the Steam EULA unless someone is willing to pony up some cash to put their stuff under Valve's commercial use license. To me, I would be honored if someone modified my stuff. To me that means my stuff is good enough for further development.

As for the OP, I will continue to look here for further development on this. I would much rather use yours on my new map than having to modify a gamemode from a complete douche.

Why do you seem so intent on taking down Toaster's idea? You act like your idea is somehow super original, when it's just taking KOTH and adding a second point...

Woo, super original... Someone else came up with a similar idea? Must be copying, my idea is unique and nobody is allowed to come up with the a similar idea, mine is the only one allowed... </sarcasm>

And your accusation of him simply downloading yours and changing 2 settings is false, and if you had actually taken 30 seconds to download Toaster's prefab to see if his was actually a copy you would instantly see why. The most obvious difference between your prefab and toaster's prefab is that Toaster's map is sealed:

(In all screenshots, Toaster's prefab is on the left, and SmallBiscuit's prefab is on the right.)

Inside Toaster's map, you can see that the layout is different, the textures used are different, the entity names are different, a few other settings are different, and even the overall entity work and logic is different: Toaster's prefab doesn't use any math_counters.

So no, Toaster's is not a blatant copy. Stop making accusations and getting defensive just because you realized your idea isn't original.

Oh, I know thats not at all what he did... I just said that you could do that... I know that he didn't actually download my map and make the two changes, but if you wanted to, thats all you'd have to do...

I'm terribly sorry if I seem like an absolute asshat, but I don't care... how would you feel if you uploaded a simple payload map here (one that wasn't original but had just a simple unique twist), and someone uploaded nearly the same thing with a few layout changes (but still kept the completely original twist)... You would probably be mad... And what do you think I am right now? Mad...

I may or may not, depending on the level of originality. For example, if someone made arena_skyfall as a direct copy-paste of mine with the same layout and everything with only a different gamemode and failed to give credit, then I might ask them to give credit and/or I'd post a plug to the original koth_skyfall. If the other person refused, then I'd claim stealing. But if someone else made a brand-new map from scratch with various deathtraps to send players off the map into a giant deathpit surrounding the map, I wouldn't claim stealing because it's an original map, and while it may have had some influence from koth_skyfall, it wouldn't be a direct copy, and it may not have had influence from koth_skyfall... The idea of pushing players off the map into a deathpit isn't original.

There IS a chance that 2 could be making something similar, like Valve's tf2 jungle theme and the Mayan Project.

Also there infinite universes.

Long story short, Anything and everything will happen, what was I talking about?

Well, the Mayann Project was the community pitching the jungle theme to Valve... It wasn't a coincidence...
