At a presentation in China for that country's release of CS:GO today, Valve said this:
N0B49qW.jpg

Which translates to:

""source 2 engine and panoramic UI" "the next big action - this summer""

The source: https://pvplive.net/c/csgos-next-operation-and-source-2-engine-release-date

We knew this was coming. First DOTA 2, now CS:GO. Now for Valve's 3rd biggest multiplayer game... unlikely but keepin the little hope i have for this game somewhere.

I don't know if they can really justify porting Half Life 2: Deathmatch to Source 2, though.

If this true, all I can say is finally! Dota 2 runs so smoother than any of the other valve games currently. (for me the least) Also it's going to be interesting how the engine works for an fps game. Hope we could see this in tf2...

I wonder how applicable it would be to just use CS:GO'S Hammer 2 for TF2...

We have a Doom inspired map which pretty much uses models made in Source 2 Hammer and then reimported into TF2 so there's at least one use case.

Panorama is Source 2's new custom UI system for creating HUDs and interface elements in a way that is similar to using HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript. It allows maps and Source 2 "addons" to have custom HUDs and stuff. I assume calling it "Panoramic" instead of "Panorama" is a translation error or localization choice.

Holy shit, if TF2 actually gets ported, then multi-gamemode HUD problems are going to be a thing of the very far past

I'm well aware, but from what I've heard using Dota's Hammer is painful, and I was just wondering if it'd be easier with csgo.

A certain map using giant robots and generators would kill for this feature

Good news.

Gabe Newell did say in the AMA a couple of months ago they want all of their developers working on Source 2 eventually but based on what the TF2 team has said to people visiting them I'm not expecting TF2 to get ported anytime soon though I expect it will probably happen eventually since obviously having the only team at Valve working on Source 1 being the TF2 team would be a problem (for example newer employees may have limited Source 1 experience and wouldn't be able to work on TF2).

Hopefully we'll be able to launch it without having to keep the game open in the background the whole time.
